Summer holidays are made up of trips to the beach, fun with friends and a lot of free time. Put school aside this summer and focus on having fun! Make the most of your free time by improving yourself, dating, making new friends, and most importantly, relaxing.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Improve yourself
Step 1. Set yourself clear goals for this summer
This is the easiest way to make sure you get the most out of your vacation. You can choose ambitious goals, such as trying to learn something new or simply decide to finish a new Netflix series. You can write whatever you want on your list, which will be very useful for you not to lose sight of your goals.
Step 2. Read a novel
You will likely have to read a lot of books for school that aren't necessarily your favorites. However, during the summer, spend some time reading a novel that wasn't assigned to you by a professor. You can choose a recently released best seller or an unknown old science fiction novel. Go to the library and browse the books recommended for the summer season.
Step 3. Write a diary
Record all the fun memories, songs, movies, books, and TV shows that marked your summer. It will be great to re-read the pages of your diary during the school year and remember the carefree times of the holidays! If you have a preference for digital media, try one of these journaling apps:
- One Day;
- Journey;
- Penzu;
- Diaro;
- Moment.
Step 4. Take courses
While some additional teaching work may be the last thing you want during your summer vacation, taking a course online or in person can help you in your future! You can learn a new hobby, brush up on a topic that bothered you the year before, or try earning college credit. Make sure you do your research before signing up, as the possibilities are endless. Some of the more common options include:
- Coursera;
- edX;
- Khan Academy;
- Duolingo;
- Udacity.
Step 5. Organize a sale of used items
Try cleaning out the closet or basement. You probably have tons of toys and clothes from your childhood that you will never use. Pick a weekend and be sure to promote the sale by posting flyers around the city. Hopefully, you'll have some cash to spend on fun summer activities!
Step 6. Find a job you enjoy
You will probably have much more free time during the summer than in the school year. Why not find a job to raise some cash to finance your fun summer activities? You can be a lifeguard if you like being outdoors or an entertainer on campuses for children.
Part 2 of 4: Becoming More Active
Step 1. Start playing a sport
Usually, summer is the best (and easiest) time to sweat a little. Try to occupy your free time by joining a team. Find out which sports associations are present in your area. If you don't like traditional sports, such as football or volleyball, you will discover many other alternatives that will surprise you!
Step 2. Go swimming
Sign up for a subscription to the local swimming pool or get invited to the home of a friend who has one in the garden. Municipal outdoor pools are probably only available in the summer months, so make the most of those days! Don't forget to bring some cash to spend at the snack bar.
Step 3. Gather your friends and play together
Call some friends, bring the necessary equipment and go to the local park. If traditional summer sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball) aren't your thing, try to invent a game yourself. If you have no other ideas, you can always play cops and robbers.
Step 4. Join the gym
Visit the local gyms and choose the one you prefer. It is much easier to leave the house to lift weights or run in hot weather and you are not tired after a long day of school.
Part 3 of 4: Doing Social Activities
Step 1. Sign up for a summer campus
Campuses are great opportunities to meet people you don't know, even if you need to ask your parents for help or save some money to attend! Today there are campuses for almost all types of interests, including:
- Music Campus;
- Creative writing campus;
- Campus of zoology;
- Cinematography Campus;
- Criminology campus.
Step 2. Volunteer for a local charity
There are endless opportunities for teenagers who want to make themselves useful during the summer. You can work on a summer campus, a soup kitchen, or find another job that suits your personality. You will likely meet beautiful people during this experience! Universities value volunteering very much when evaluating applications for enrollment. Ask local government agencies or ask your friends for advice on what activities you can do.
Step 3. Go to a concert
This summer, get a few friends to go to a concert for you. No matter what kind of music you like, make sure you get your tickets well in advance. If a friend invites you to see a band you've never heard of, go with them: you may like them and you may discover your new favorite artist. Even better if the event is organized outdoors!
Step 4. Go to the beach
You don't need to live on the coast to enjoy a nice day at the beach! You can have a similar experience by going to a nearby lake. Get some friends with you, bring a towel, beach ball, sunscreen, and get ready to enjoy the weather. Don't be afraid to talk to other guys on the beach; you could make some new friends!
Part 4 of 4: Relax and Enjoy Your Free Moments
Step 1. Get out of the house and enjoy the weather
Depending on where you live, summer may be the only time of year with warm weather. Don't waste it! Even if you're the sedentary type, try to get out and get some fresh air at least a couple of times this summer. There is no need to go running or playing sports. In some cases, simply sitting outside or taking a short walk is enough to feel better!
Step 2. Eat something cold
On hot summer days, there is nothing better than an ice cream or a popsicle. Go to an ice cream parlor or yoghurt shop and enjoy your favorite desserts.
Step 3. Sleep outdoors
Grab a sleeping bag, an insecticide spray and fall asleep under the stars! It is not necessary to organize a real camping trip; in some cases, even just sleeping in the garden is a beautiful experience, different from the usual one.
Step 4. Go to the cinema
Summer is one of the few times of the year when you can spend your afternoons at the cinema. In addition, many film companies often release their most famous titles in those months. Get some friends with you or go alone to see a highly anticipated movie. If you decide to go there during the day, you might as well take advantage of some discounts!
Step 5. Don't worry if you're not very active
Summer holidays are first and foremost a time to relax. If you don't like going to the pool, don't be afraid to dedicate a few days just to yourself by staying at home.
Advice
- Keep busy! Don't waste the whole summer doing nothing. You only have these months to spare for activities that require warm weather.
- If it rains, stay indoors and watch some great movies that inspire you, or leave the house and let the rain get wet.
- Don't be afraid to meet new people. Summer is one of the few times you can meet people from other schools, so make some new friends!
- Even if summer is a good time to relax, why not prepare yourself for the next school year? Study for the baccalaureate exam, read novels for Italian lessons, anticipate some topics that you will cover in history. Even doing little is better than nothing and you will be able to start the school year more easily.
- If your friends are going on vacation, decide in advance how to keep in touch.
- Wear a light colored shirt or short sleeved shirt with shorts or a skirt. You won't need shoes (except slippers or sandals), so take them off when outdoors! Walking barefoot is a great way to enjoy the summer weather.
- You have every right to wear whatever you like in the summer. Wear loose, light-colored clothing that reflects sunlight, such as a shirt and shorts (if you're a boy) or a tank top and skirt (if you're a girl). As for shoes, don't overheat your feet with closed shoes and socks, so don't put them on or take them off before going outside! Walking barefoot is ideal for relaxing, especially in summer.
