Cleaning a phone's silicone case is very important, as its surface can be contaminated with germs and dirt residue. To clean this material, you can use soap and water. Aggressive cleaners should instead be avoided. For lack of anything else, disinfectant wipes are quite effective at removing bacteria from the case. Make an effort to clean it carefully about once a month and disinfect it at least once a week.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Wash the Case Monthly
Step 1. Remove the phone from the case to clean it
Before doing a thorough cleaning, you need to remove the silicone case. Gently spread it out at one corner to begin pulling out the phone. Keep lifting the case around the perimeter of the phone until you can fully slide the device out.
Avoid pulling the silicone with excessive force, otherwise you risk damaging or tearing it
Step 2. Add 1 or 2 drops of dish soap to 1 cup (240 ml) of warm water
Using warm soapy water is the absolute best way to clean a silicone case. Add dish soap to 1 cup of water. Do this when the water is warm, so that the detergent dissolves well inside. Mix the ingredients until you get a slightly foamy solution.
Step 3. Dip a clean toothbrush in the soapy water and scrub the case
Take a clean toothbrush and soak it in the soapy water for 1 to 2 minutes, then apply it to the silicone case. Rub it in small circular motions. Focus on stains or caked dirt to best clean the case.
Dip your toothbrush in soapy water every 4 to 5 seconds to make sure you clean the case thoroughly
Step 4. Sprinkle a pinch of baking soda on stubborn dirt or stains
Baking soda helps remove oil stains, dirt, or other hard-to-remove residue. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda directly on the dirty areas. Keep scrubbing the case with your toothbrush.
Step 5. Rinse the case thoroughly with water
Once you're done scrubbing it, rinse the case in the sink to get rid of the solution. Use lukewarm water rather than hot or cold. Gently scrub the case while rinsing to make sure there are no traces of detergent left.
Step 6. Let the case dry completely before replacing the phone in it
Putting the phone back in the wet case can damage the device and encourage the proliferation of bacteria inside the cover. Blot the case with a paper towel to remove as much water as possible. Then, let it dry for about an hour to make sure it's dry and ready to use.
If you're short on time, try drying the case with the hair dryer on low for a few seconds
Step 7. Clean the case once a month to reduce germs and stains
Daily use of the phone leads to the regular transfer of sebum and bacteria from your skin to the surface of the device. Minimize the accumulation of germs and dirt by cleaning the case inside and out at least once a month. To remind yourself, set a monthly reminder. You can also write it down on your calendar or diary.
Method 2 of 2: Disinfect the Case Weekly
Step 1. Take the phone out of the case to make sure you remove all germs
Just disinfecting the outside of the case is not enough, as bacteria can lurk between the phone and the case. Always remove the device from the case to sanitize it well. Make sure you get rid of bacteria from both the inside and outside of the case for best results.
Step 2. Clean the case with a disinfectant wipe at least once a week
Wipe the disinfectant wipe all over the inner and outer surface of the case. Let it dry for a few minutes. Once you are sure that it has dried well, put the phone back in it.
This method is also effective for quickly disinfecting the case if it comes into contact with germs
Step 3. If you don't have disinfectant wipes, scrub the case with denatured ethyl alcohol to kill germs
Apply denatured ethyl alcohol to a Q-tip or cotton swab. Wipe the alcohol wipe over the inner and outer surface of the case. This will allow you to get rid of any bacteria left on the cover.
Denatured ethyl alcohol should evaporate within seconds after application
Step 4. Put the phone back into the case once it has dried
Make sure there are no traces of moisture left inside, as this could damage your phone. Wait a few more minutes to make sure it is completely dry before putting the device back in.
Step 5. Avoid applying aggressive products to the case
Strong and concentrated products can damage silicone items. Avoid using harsh chemicals on the case. They include:
- Household detergents;
- Specific products for glass;
- Detergents containing ammonia;
- Detergents containing hydrogen peroxide;
- Spray;
- Solvents.
Advice
- Be careful when washing the case in case it has crystals, rhinestones or other decorative elements.
- Choose a dark silicone case to prevent smudging.
Warnings
- Do not boil the case to disinfect it, as the silicone may shrink.
- Stains left by clothing dyes tend to remain permanently on the silicone.
