Skateboarding is a great way to stay out of the house and do something fun when you get bored. If you want to convince your parents to buy you one, keep reading this article.
Steps
Step 1. Talk to your parents about skateboarding
Tell them that this is something you really like. Also, let him know it's one of your favorite hobbies. Tell your parents about the benefits of skateboarding, such as the fact that it is a great way to exercise and that it offers you something different to do than staying at home on the couch all day.
Step 2. Do a research to understand the prices of a skateboard
After you have collected a good number of offers, show the prices to your parents. Parents appreciate it when you take your time to piece together information. If your parents don't have a lot of money to give you, it's a good idea to try and check out non-branded skateboards as well. Also, try to suggest the idea that you will pay half the price required for the purchase of the skateboard, if what you want is quite expensive.
Step 3. Make sure your parents know you won't hurt yourself
Reassure them that you will be wearing a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads as you learn how to skateboard. Also, let him know that you will only go skateboarding where your parents will let you go. This means that if they want you to skateboard only in your neighborhood, you have to promise you won't go anywhere else.
Step 4. Tell your parents about your other friends who already have a skateboard
Tell your parents how many of your friends are already skateboarding, and tell them you will have a lot of fun doing it with your mates. Also, reassure your parents that your friends can help you in case you get hurt, and they can also teach you how to stay away from injury while skateboarding.
Step 5. Ask your parents if they can buy it for you as a gift
Explain to them that you are willing to wait until your birthday or until Christmas. Or, if you are not around that time of year, you can tell your parents that you will pay them back once you have them.
Advice
- Make sure the skateboard is the right size and is what you "really" want. There is no point in buying a skateboard that you don't like or that isn't the right size.
- Remind them how important it is to stay active, and point out that skateboarding is a healthy sport because it keeps you active.
- If they refuse, don't keep asking. Wait a week, then try a different approach.
- Try telling them that if they were to buy you a skateboard, you'd be willing to sell some of your old stuff, like an old guitar or whatever.
- Make a PowerPoint presentation or poster showing the benefits of buying a skateboard. Insert images, templates and prepare a compelling speech. In their eyes, you will appear responsible and willing.
- Explain that cycling is more dangerous.
Warnings
- Don't lie to your parents just to get them to buy you one. For example, don't say you'll always wear a helmet if you don't intend to. If your parents found out your lies, they could give the skateboarding back.
- Don't waste your parents' money by buying the latest beautiful model if you are just a beginner. You may not be ready to use it and risk breaking it by trying to do a trick.
