Do you want to have beautiful and summer blonde hair? Many women dye their hair themselves at home to achieve this look without paying a beauty salon. There are a few things you need to know before you lock yourself in the bathroom with a bottle of peroxide: oxygenating your hair can dry it out, and if you don't do it right it could break. Read this article to find out how to go from brunette to Brigitte Bardot with the minimum of expense and damage.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Prepare to Oxygenate Your Hair
Step 1. Start with healthy hair
Do not dye or use aggressive products on the hair in the months preceding oxygenation. Oxygenating your hair will be much easier if your hair is strong and healthy. Strengthens hair in the following ways:
- Use natural shampoo and conditioner. Avoid products that contain sulfates, which can dry out your hair.
- Avoid chemical sprays, gels, hair straighteners, and so on.
- Do not apply heat to your hair with a straightener, blow dryer or other device that can heat it up.
Step 2. Purchase oxygenation products
Decide what shade you want to achieve, and purchase the following products at your local beauty center:
- Oxygenating powder. You can buy it in packages or in tubes; it may be cheaper to buy it in tubes if you plan to oxygenate your hair more than once.
- Developer cream. If your hair is blonde or light brown, use a 20 or 30 volume developer. If your hair is black or very dark, you may need a 40 volume developer. The lower the volume, the less damage to your hair.
- Toner. If you want to get a platinum color, you will need a toner, which removes the yellow color from bleached hair. Some toners make them white, others provide silver highlights.
- Red Gold Concealer. You will need to add it to the oxygenating powder to increase its effectiveness, so you don't have to oxygenate twice. If you have long, thick hair, you may need two tubes of concealer.
- A neutral protein filler. This product helps to replenish the proteins removed from the hair during the oxygenation process.
- Specific shampoos for oxygenated hair.
- A paint brush, a bowl and plastic wrap.
Method 2 of 3: The Oxygenation Process
Step 1. Check that the area is well ventilated and that you have everything you need close at hand
This will allow you to work faster and more accurately, minimizing the amount of harmful vapors you will have to breathe during the process.
Step 2. Prepare the oxygenating compound
Following the instructions that accompany the oxygenating powder, place some powder in a bowl. Add the correct dose of developer using a spatula or spoon. Add the red gold concealer following the directions on the bottle.
- The compound will not be blond; it should be white to blue or blue.
- Use gloves to avoid touching the chemicals with your hands.
Step 3. Apply the mixture to completely dry hair
Use the brush to apply the mixture starting from the tips towards the roots. Cover all your hair (or just the area you want to oxygenate).
- If this is your first time, you may want someone to help you make sure the mixture covers the hair behind your head.
- Do not massage the skin with the mixture; it could burn the skin. Try not to let it come into contact with your skin.
- Use a towel to remove it from your face and arms.
Step 4. Cover your hair with plastic wrap and allow time for the mixture to work
The longer you keep the mixture on your hair, the lighter it will be at the end of the process.
- Set an alarm for 15 minutes. Check your hair color by using a towel to remove the compound from a section near the forehead. If your hair is still dark, apply some compound again to the area you removed it from, and let it sit for another ten minutes. Keep checking until your hair is light enough.
- Be very careful not to leave the mixture on your hair for too long. Never leave it for more than an hour or else your hair will start falling out.
- The mixture will cause you to feel heat in your head, and it may start to sting. If it becomes painful, wash it off immediately.
Step 5. Rinse the mixture
Rinse your hair until all the product is removed. Use a shampoo specifically for bleached hair.
Step 6. Dry your hair
Use a towel and air dry your hair or use a blow dryer.
After bleaching the hair, it will be yellow-blond. You can stop there, but if you want to have them platinum, you'll need to use a toner as well
Method 3 of 3: The Toning Process
Step 1. Prepare the mixture with the toner
Mix one part of the toner and two parts of the developer in a bowl. Add the red gold concealer according to the directions on the bottle.
- Remember to wear gloves to avoid touching the products with your hands.
- The compound will be blue.
Step 2. Apply the toner to completely dry hair
Use a clean brush to apply the mixture. Pay particular attention to the roots.
Step 3. Let the toner rest
Check the directions on the bottle to determine how long you need to let the toner sit on your hair. This will take approximately 30 minutes.
Step 4. Rinse the toner
Keep your hair under water until it becomes transparent. Use a bleached hair shampoo to make sure you've removed it all.
Step 5. Use a conditioner
Use a deep conditioner for dyed hair. For the next few weeks, take care of your hair carefully. Don't use too much heat, and avoid using too many chemicals.
Advice
- Use deep conditioning treatments frequently when you have bleached hair.
- To maintain the blond color, oxygenate the roots every 4-5 weeks.
- If you start with already dyed hair, you will need to use a bleach before bleaching it.
- The worst thing you can do is to oxygenate your hair and immediately darken it because you don't like the result. Not only will you damage your hair, but you may even lose it.
- If you have any doubts about the procedure, rely on professionals.
- If you are not satisfied with the color of your hair after the first try, wait 24 hours and oxygenate the parts that are orange, or the parts that you did not treat the first time.
Warnings
- 40-50 Volume Developers are extremely powerful and will likely cause severe damage to your hair. They could even cause it to fall. They are only suitable for black or very dark hair.
- The oxygenating compound will stain your clothes and make your skin itch, so be sure to wear protective gloves and clothing.
- Don't use bleaches on your hair. These substances are very dangerous for your body.
- If your skin is sensitive or you have dandruff, don't overdo it with oxygenation.
