Imagine: you are quietly walking down the street and suddenly you see your favorite celebrity walking by! How to behave with a star? How to behave like a normal fan? How to ask him / her for an autograph? Simply, read this article!
Note: This page assumes that you are meeting a celebrity randomly, and not at a scheduled event such as a meeting or conference.
Steps
Step 1. Approach in a completely calm manner
Stay composed: don't start screaming or acting crazy. You could scare them and make them walk away - just because they're showbiz people doesn't mean they love getting fans screaming in their faces. And remember not to act too ambiguously either.
Step 2. Make eye contact and smile
It will give you confidence and you will be able to keep your nerve. This way, he will notice your presence and it will be as if you tell him: "Hey I'm here and I'm interested"! Remember to smile - it will make you look friendly and therefore won't be afraid to talk to you. However, don't smile too much or you might look weird.
Step 3. Wait for the right moment to speak to him
If he notices you and nods to you, it's your time to say something like: "Hi, how are you?". If he ignores you, give up and walk away. He probably doesn't want to be disturbed. If he responds, go ahead and start your conversation.
Step 4. Talk about normal things
Talk about ordinary, everyday things, things you would talk about with other people. Make sure the conversation has a real subject and that it's not just useless gibbering. Don't bore him / her by talking about the weather or other boring things.
Step 5. Be quick
They don't have all the time in the world, and while they love their fans very much, they may not be interested in hearing the whole story of your life. Talk for a couple of minutes and end the conversation. You could think of a standard phrase to say before meeting any celebrity, so that you don't panic and already know what to say exactly in case you really happen to meet a character from the show. Even if you really idolize this person, keep the conversation short and never be boring. Try to say something he can remember, considering he probably meets hundreds of other fans a day.
Step 6. Make sure you are closing the conversation, not him / her
Don't talk for a long time if he / she doesn't seem interested. For example something like: "It was very nice talking to you, but I have to go. Would you mind giving me an autograph?"
Step 7. Remember to thank
If he / she does you this favor, thank you and walk away with a little nod.
Step 8. Don't go crazy if he doesn't give you an autograph
If he refuses, say something like, "Don't worry, that's okay. I was pleased to meet you. Have a good day." A polite conclusion is always best.
Step 9. Don't ask them for their phone number or address
There is a very good chance he will refuse. He may take it as an invasion of his privacy, and it will make the situation between you very inconvenient.
Advice
- Be kind and behave with respect.
- If he compliments you, thank you. Don't be aggressive or too full of you, because he / she doesn't know you either.
- Treat him as you would treat any other person you meet in a public place. We are all human.
- Don't talk like a reporter. Act as if you are talking to your friend. The stars don't want to be interrogated. If you are really a journalist, don't write about your chance encounter. It's not your job to write down unexpected encounters.
- Try to get to know him / her, but don't be a stalker. Try talking about his career. ask some general questions, like, "How did you get into show business?" or tell him how much you appreciate his work.
- Remember: even if we know their names and have some background information about their lives, we don't really know them! Don't expect it to match your expectations or impressions you have had based on what you know about him / her - this information may not be accurate at all!
- Some people don't talk about their work unless it's something they are extremely proud of, so try to stay general.
- If you're wondering where to go to meet a star or two (if you're luckier!) Go to sites like Stickam or Myspace, or search online and find out if the star in question has an interview or show scheduled somewhere.. Or, if it's a singer, you could tune into radio stations that are giving away matches with celebrities who play concerts in the area!
Warnings
- Remember the Golden Rule: Treat others as you want to be treated.
- Not scream.
- Do not follow him / her.
- Do not approach a celebrity in a restaurant or bar while they are eating, especially if they are with someone special
- Do not call your friends and do not invite them to come and meet the character in question: you will make him / her uncomfortable.
- If he is busy, it is best to let him go and give thanks for the time allowed. Many people want to meet celebrities, but only a few manage to do so!
- Put the camera down. It is not a photo shoot. How would you feel if someone were pointing their flashes at you for no apparent reason?
- Don't talk about gossip and gossip.
- Beware of cheaters pretending to be celebrities. Look for information on her site that proves that she is the celebrity's official page. They should have photos that are not easily found on the internet, videos and audio files.
- You also need to take into account the city you are in. In some countries, when a celebrity is in a big city, they can be seen around without arousing any reaction, even if it's Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, or Justin Bieber. In these cases, a normal conversation like the one you would have with your friends would be fine and, in these cities, it is very difficult for a crowd to form around you. In smaller towns, however, you may attract more attention. The opposite could also happen, so adjust accordingly. There may also be stars who are treated like gods in Europe and who are unknown in Australia, or vice versa. Again, he speaks quite naturally.
- Never ask questions about his private life.
