Blow drying your hair takes time and can risk damaging it. If you want to experiment with a good alternative to a hairdryer, try different methods by following the steps in this article.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Pat your hair dry
Step 1. Apply the conditioner to your hair
While in the shower, don't forget to use conditioner. Conditioner not only improves hair health, it also repels water. The conditioner contains a covering that adheres to the hair and causes the water to flow rather than be absorbed.
If you have curly hair, apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair. It will help combat frizz during the drying process. If you have thin hair, apply oil to any dry ends
Step 2. Remove excess water before you step out of the shower
You can start the drying process even before you get out of the shower. Then gently squeeze your hair to remove excess water. After removing as much of it as possible, run your fingers through the strands and move them to separate them. This will allow you to dry your hair faster.
After rinsing them off the conditioner, try not to get your hair wet again. Pick them up to keep them away from the jet of water or get out of the shower. This will reduce the amount of water present
Step 3. Shake your hair
After getting out of the shower, put yourself upside down. Shake your head from side to side for a few seconds. Use your fingers to lift the roots and speed up the drying process.
By shaking your hair you will allow air to flow between the strands. This will help make them dry faster than when they adhere to each other
Step 4. Blot your hair with a towel
Use a towel to remove the water from your hair. Make sure it's microfiber or some other super absorbent material, avoiding the more classic towels. A normal towel can make hair frizzy and risk breaking. Use an absorbent towel to absorb the moisture. Try to remove as much water as possible. Divide your hair into sections. Squeeze one into the towel for a few seconds, then release it and move on to the next. Continue and then dab it again for the number of times needed.
- Whenever you dry a new section of hair, use a dry section of the towel. This way you can be sure you don't get them wet again.
- Don't rub your hair too vigorously when using the towel. You could also damage your cuticles by using a microfiber towel.
- Instead of a towel, try using a cotton shirt or pillowcase. The cotton will absorb moisture and protect the hair. Alternatively, you can try blotting them with paper tissues. The latter method will reduce frizz.
Step 5. Focus on the roots
While drying your hair, focus on the roots rather than the ends. The tips will dry out faster than the roots. For your hair to dry faster, you need to remove as much water as possible from the roots.
- Blot the roots several times with the towel. Use a smaller towel to get closer to them in case the larger one doesn't work.
- Continuously swell the roots. Stand upside down and run your fingers to the roots. You want to allow as much airflow as possible for them to dry quickly.
Step 6. Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb
Hair experts say you should never use the brush on damp hair. Then use a wide-toothed comb to remove any knots. This will help you keep frizz under control and reduce the possible damage caused to damp hair.
- After combing them, use your fingers to part the strands or shake your head. Make sure the strands remain separate to promote airflow.
- You can add your own hair care products before or after combing them. To be able to style them once dry, your hair requires the application of special styling products. Depending on your needs, choose to define your curls, apply an anti-frizz serum or use a salt spray.
- Part the comb. Then try not to touch it with your hands, otherwise you could cause unwanted frizz.
Step 7. Let the hair finish drying
After dabbing all the water and separating the strands, let your hair air dry. The time it takes for them to dry completely depends on the thickness of your hair, the amount of water removed and the climate.
- If it takes a very long time, put yourself upside down several times every few minutes. The air will have access to a larger surface area of the hair, allowing it to dry faster.
- Another option is to run your fingers or a comb through your hair every 10-15 minutes.
Method 2 of 2: Dry Hair with Other Methods
Step 1. Wrap your hair in a turban made with a towel
Use a microfiber towel to wrap your hair after a shower. Leave your hair in the turban while you get ready, have breakfast, or do something else. Check every 10-15 minutes or so, your hair should quickly approach the desired result.
- Make sure you have removed all excess water before wrapping them in the turban. Gently squeeze the strands, then blot excess moisture from your hair. At this point wrap them in the turban.
- Instead of buying a dedicated hair turban, simply wrap them in a microfiber towel.
Step 2. Try twisting your hair
Twisting them is a great way to dry curly hair. Start by applying a styling product of your choice. Wrap a soft cotton T-shirt around your head. Instead of wrapping it like a turban on the top of your head, twist it so that it curls around your ears - each side will take on the appearance of a bundle. Secure the ends to the base of the neck.
- Keep the towel on your hair for 20-30 minutes before removing it.
- Make sure you remove excess water and pat your hair dry before twisting it into the shirt.
Step 3. Use a microfiber brush
A microfiber brush has spongy microfiber bristles that absorb excess water from the hair. Pass it several times between the strands to help remove water.
Try brushing your hair a few times with the microfiber brush. Shake your head to allow air to pass between the strands. Repeat after about 5-10 minutes
Step 4. Shake your hair to dry
Remove excess water and pat them dry. Then stand upside down and move it from side to side. Use your fingers to separate and inflate the hair at the roots. Hold your hair and gently shake it from top to bottom and vice versa. Return to a standing position and move your head by rotating it from side to side.
The movement will promote the circulation of air between the strands. It will also separate the hair that adheres to each other, allowing the water that has been trapped to escape
Step 5. Get out in the sun
The heat from direct sunlight will help dry your hair. If you have the time, sit outside or walk while you wait for them to dry. Make sure you have removed any excess water, and pat your hair dry before going out. Shake your hair and swell it at the roots. This will allow them to dry quickly.
