Plastic egg containers can be recycled to create interesting objects, such as an adorable daisy, or, even more easily, a poppy. It's a similarly creative and simple recycling technique, and items can be used to decorate food or gifts, as place cards or cards, or for any other use you can think of.

Steps

Step 1. Separate and cut out each egg holder from a plastic egg container

Choose the flower you want to build, daisy or poppy:

Margherita Pizza: cut each egg holder into "8 equal" to form the petals. Cut out the end of each petal with shears, for the tip.

  • Poppy: do not cut. Simply detaching the egg holder from the container will allow this piece to open wide enough to already look like the flower.

Step 2. Pierce each piece in the center with a pin, from the inside

Once pierced, insert a toothpick into the hole. In addition to being the stem of the flower, it will also provide support for when you need to shape the petals with heat.

Step 3. Make sure you are in a well-ventilated area for this operation

Also remove any flammable material from the work area, then light the candle. Moving carefully around the candle, begin shaping the shape of each flower, using the flame to melt the petals into the desired shape. Don't touch the flame or the plastic will burn - just bring the flower close enough to melt it in the heat. The following photos will show a range of flower possibilities, achieved by simply moving the petal carefully over the flame:

Step 4. Cover the stem with masking tape

The tape prevents the stem from being painted in the next step.

Step 5. Color each flower

Using the spray paint of the desired color, gently spray on the flowers. Again, make sure that the area is well ventilated and that the work area is adequately covered to avoid staining everywhere.

Step 6. Use another toothpick to remove the scotch tape from each stem when the paint is dry

Step 7. Create the center of the flower using three dimensional paint

Place a pinch of paint in the center of the flower and it should look like this:

    The center of the daisy.

Step 8. Refine everything

The flowers are now ready to be used as you wish.

If you want to be very creative, try doubling down on the petals and stems.

Warnings

  • Ventilation is key when working with plastic and heat. Always be prepared; if you suffer from breathing problems, wear a mask to avoid contact with smoke.
  • Be careful not to burn yourself with the candle while handling it. It is recommended that you avoid dangling clothing or accessories, and in case you have long hair, gather it up before starting this project.
  • Some plastics can smell bad when heated. The physical properties of different types of plastics are different, so be very careful if you use special plastics! Do not PET plastic substitutes are recommended, unless you are sure there are no greater risks.
