Whether for a wedding, a garden party, or just to celebrate spring or summer, a flower crown is a beautiful way to make the most of the season's buds. This is a simple project that will add a delicate touch to any event. Buy or collect your favorite flowers and attach them to a wire base to make a gorgeous and unique head ornament.

Method 1 of 3: Making a Simple Threaded Crown
Step 1. Buy or collect fresh flowers
The great thing about making a flower crown is that you can use any type of flower you want. Tune in to the season by collecting outdoor wildflower bouquets, or go to a flower shop and pick out some pretty greenhouse buds. To make this simple strung wreath you can take enough flowers to surround your entire head, or even just the sides and forehead.
- If you want it to be varied, choose flowers with large, medium and small petals so that the crown is well balanced. For example, you can use gardenias, daisies and daisies in the same wreath.
- To add texture, consider including some fresh greenery, leaves, herbs, and whatever else you like.
- The same technique applies to silk and paper flowers.
Step 2. Cut the stems to 5cm
All stems should be the same length so that the crown, when finished, looks neat with no stems sticking out.

For a regular arrangement, the flowers should all face in the same direction. If you are stringing them from largest to smallest, it is best to put the larger ones in the center. You will have an arch of small and medium flowers that point to the right and another arch of small and medium flowers that tend to the left, thinning out towards the empty space behind the crown
Step 5. Attach the first flower to the part of the crown closed with the ribbon
Centering the first flower on the part of the base thread where the ribbon is is a convenient way to hide the clasp. Line up the flower with the base wire, then twist a piece of masking tape around it to secure it. Make sure the flower stays in place before continuing.
- Handle the flowers carefully, being careful not to crush the petals.
- If your flowers are very heavy, it is advisable to tie them before attaching them to your wreath. You can do this by inserting a piece of florist wire through the center of the bud, creating a small hook at the end, and then pulling it down a bit to hide it between the petals. Now, use a piece of masking tape to secure the end of the wire to the stem and to attach the flower you tied to your wreath.
Step 6. Place the second flower next to the first
Order them so that the stem of the second slightly overlaps the first, and the buds are perfectly close to each other. Do not leave spaces between two buds, otherwise the crown will not have a full appearance.
Step 7. Continue sticking the flowers
Continue securing the flowers to the wreath in the same way, working in a circle. Check to make sure the buds are close together, and make sure there are no gaps along the way. Continue until you have used all the flowers that you arranged in the beginning.
Step 8. Test the crown
If you see any space or places you want more full, gently separate the flowers, insert another one and tie it tightly. Tie a long ribbon behind the crown to give a more beautiful effect.
Method 2 of 3: Making a Bridal Crown
Step 1. Buy or collect wedding flowers
This crown is slightly more durable and elegant - ideal for a bride and her bridesmaids. You will need lots of different sized flowers and some green leaves or herbs. Choose flowers that match the bouquet and decorations, or buds that match the dress.
- Roses, irises, lilies, gardenias and many other flowers form beautiful wedding crowns.
- The wreaths will wither in a few hours, no matter what type of flowers you choose. However, some stores sell a spray that will make them look fresh for a few more hours.
- If you make your wreath the day before the wedding, keep it in the refrigerator to prevent the flowers from wilting.
Step 2. Make the base
Since the crown is meant to last throughout the ceremony and reception, you will need a base made of strong vine wire; it can be found in most hardware stores. Measure your head where you want the crown to fit, then cut 5 cm longer than that measurement. Place the wire in a circle on your head and fold the ends into hooks, or twist them to snap them together.
Step 3. Cut the flower stems to 5cm
You'll make sure they stay in place on the crown without coming out of the sides.
Step 4. Tie the heavier flowers
Use florist wire to make the flowers more resistant. Pull a small length of thread out of the center of the bud, make a small hook and simply hide it between the petals. Attach the end of the wire to the stem with florist tape.
Step 5. Make small bouquets of flowers
A good way to make the crown look very full is to stick them in small bouquets, rather than one at a time. Spread out all your flowers, then gather them in about a dozen bunches. Wrap the stems together with florist tape.
- Each bunch should have a variety of different flowers - small, medium and large, as well as a few green leaves.
- Try to make more bunches. You may not even use them if you find yourself more than necessary.
Step 6. Attach the bunches to the base of the wreath
Place the first bunch against the base so that the stems line up with the wire. Secure the stems with florist tape. Attach the next bunch by overlapping it slightly on the stems of the first one, and securing it with more tape.
- All buds should be facing the same direction.
- Make sure there are no gaps through which the base can be seen. The entire wreath should be covered in flowers once you are done making it.
Step 7. Put on the crown
Examine it from all angles and add more flowers if you see holes. If you want, add a ribbon on the back.
Method 3 of 3: Making a Woven Crown
Step 1. Choose the flowers
For this type of wreath, find a bouquet of flowers with folding stems that are at least 7.5 cm in length. The longer they are the better, as you will have to weave them all together.
- The crown can be made with a single type of flower or with a variety. Examples of usable flowers include rose, lavender, daisy, clover, violet, asphodel, flax, and tulip.
- Avoid using flowers that release too much pollen or ooze excessively.
- Thyme is a great herb to use in intertwined crowns when in full bloom. Its small pink flowers are very beautiful when they bloom and smell good.
Step 2. Hold three flowers and intertwine them
Hold a few flowers in your hands, placing the buds next to each other in a row, with the stems on the same side. Weave the stems from the base of the buds to halfway from the tips, gently so you don't break them.
Step 3. Add more flowers
Add another flower to the braid before reaching the end of the first three stems, aligning it with one of the starting flowers and intertwining the stems as if they were one. Continue adding more flowers by stretching the chain like this.

Step 4. Check the length
Every so often, rest the chain against your head to measure it. If it's too short, keep adding flowers. If it is too long, gently remove some.
Step 5. Finish the crown
Complete it by intertwining the last stems with the first buds. Thread the ends into the chain. Make sure it is tight enough not to slip off.
Step 6. Put on the crown
Advice
- If you can't find real flowers, it's fine to use fake ones too. Fake flowers are usually easier to work with because they don't break apart. And the result will be an everlasting flower crown!
- Daisies and clovers are particularly suitable for weaving into a wreath. Their thin stems are easy to work with.
- It is a gorgeous and inexpensive gift for a woman. It is also a very nice thought to take some time to make this gift.
- You can add ribbons as an extra touch. Just add colorful ribbons by knotting them at the crown.
- An assistant would be helpful, especially when weaving the stems together. They may come loose, and you will need to keep them firm and tidy. Otherwise they will separate and you will have to start over from the beginning.
- It can also become a wreath, if the weave is long enough and the stems are not knotted together.
