By playing The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim it is possible to contract the Sanguinare Vampiris when you are injured by a vampire during a fight. It is also possible to become a vampire by joining the Volkihar Clan available within the game's expansion called Dawnguard. Being a vampire increases the values of the "Magika" and "Stamina" stats, but at the same time causes the values of certain stats to drop during the day and increases the damage caused by fire. There are methods to cure the initial disease before it becomes full-blown vampirism (for example, taking healing potions or performing religious rituals). In order to cure full-blown vampirism, the mission "The Light of Dawn" must be completed on behalf of Falion, who is in Morthal.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Curing the Vampiris Bleeding Disease

Step 1. Understand how the vampirism disease works

In its initial form it is called Sanguinare Vampiris and can be contracted by fighting vampires. After contracting the infection, you have a window of time equal to three days (within the game) to cure it before it becomes full-blown vampirism. Once the disease has reached its final stage, the treatments in this section will no longer be suitable and you will need to be treated by Falion.

  • When you contract the Bleed Vampiris, you see the relevant notification message appear in the lower corner of the screen. To make sure you don't get the disease after facing a vampire, you can give your character basic health care.
  • If you start seeing messages indicating that your character is strangely thirsty for blood or that the sunlight is weakening you, it means that the disease is now overt and that these treatments are no longer sufficient.

Step 2. Use a potion to cure diseases

This type of healing can be found anywhere in the game world, purchased from various merchants or created directly by the player himself. Members of the "Silver Hand" and "Watchers of Stendarr" often possess this type of potion, so you can steal them once they are killed.

  • Street vendors and shops around the game world are stocked randomly, so they don't always have healing potions available.
  • All of the following ingredients have healing properties and can be used to make a potion: "Charred Skeever Skin", "Felsaad Tern Feathers", "Hawk Feathers", "Mud Crab Chitin" and "Vampire Dust".

Step 3. Pray in a shrine

Any sanctuary can cure diseases. You can spot them within the vast world of Skyrim although they are often found in temples in major cities.

Step 4. Ask a "Stendarr Watcher" to be healed

These are wandering characters who roam the world of Skyrim even if they can often be met in their seat called "Aula del Vigilante". This is an isolated property south of "Dawnstar".

Method 2 of 2: Cure Convicted Vampirism

Step 1. Talk to all the innkeepers to start the "Light of Dawn" mission

Potentially, all the innkeepers around the world of Skyrim have the ability to get you to participate in this quest, but the answers they will give to your questions about how to cure full-blown vampirism will be partly random. The purpose of the mission is to be able to talk to Falion in the city of Morthal: a wizard who has carried out studies on vampirism.

  • If you can't find an innkeeper who can get you started on the quest, try traveling to a different city or resting a night. Sometimes, over time, their answers to your questions will change.
  • This type of dialogue is only available after you have become a full-fledged vampire.
  • If you have reached the fourth stage of full-blown vampirism (leaving many days to go without feeding), villagers and townspeople will attack you on sight (including inn keepers). In this case, before you can speak to an innkeeper and start the mission, you will need to feed yourself or drink blood in order to lower the disease level.

Step 2. Go to Morthal, then talk to Falion

He will explain how the ritual to cure vampirism takes place and ask you to bring him a filled "Black Soul Stone" as part of the quest.

Morthal is located north of Whiterun. Normally, Falion resides in his home marked on the map with his name

Step 3. Find a "Black Soul Gem"

This type of gem is used to trap the souls of humans, as an ingredient in the creation of powerful spells or, as in this case, as part of a ritual. You can purchase an empty "Black Soul Gem" directly from Falion by paying the corresponding price. These types of gems can also be found in dungeons and are owned by "Necromancers" who you can steal after killing them.

Step 4. Fill a "Black Soul Gem"

Unlike other gems of this type, the "Black Soul Gems" are used to contain the souls of living beings. In order to fill one, you will have to kill a human using a magical weapon on which the "Soul Trap" spell has been used or you will have to use the spell directly on the intended victim.

  • The magic tome to prepare the "Soul Trap" spell can be purchased from various vendors, including the court mages of Whiterun and Windhelm, or from one of the mages who inhabit the Academy of Winterhold.
  • Normally, you will be able to purchase the "Soul Trap" scrolls from the same person who sold you the magic tome. It is an item that can be used without any magical knowledge.
  • If you have a weapon on which the "Soul Trap" spell has already been used, but has now expired, you can use that tool again to restore its magical functions. Some of these weapons can be found or purchased by exploring the world of Skyrim.
  • If you don't have a spell available or don't want to buy a weapon, you can get the "Mace of Molag Bal" as a reward for completing the "House of Horrors" quest. To gain access to this mission, talk to Tyranus in the city of Markarth.

Step 5. Once filled, return the "Black Soul Gem" to Falion

He will ask you to meet him at a magical place called the "Circle of Summoning" located just outside the city of Morthal.

Step 6. Meet Falion

The "Circle of Summoning" is located north of the city of Morthal. You will need to meet Falion exactly between 5:00 and 6:00 in the morning, after which the wizard will begin the healing ritual.

Falion will not be able to perform the magical ritual without your presence. This means that you will not have to go to the meeting place immediately if you want to do other activities first

Step 7. Wait for the end of the magical ritual

Falion will perform the ritual to heal you and, after a short dialogue, you will no longer be a vampire.

Advice

  • If you get vampirism again in the future, you will be able to repeat Falion's mission as many times as necessary to heal yourself.
  • If you have chosen to be an Argonian or a Bosmer (wood elf) you will naturally be resistant to disease and have a 50% less chance of contracting the Bleed Vampiris.
  • You can use the potion to increase disease resistance (called "Cure for Disease") or you can wear equipment that has been spelled to increase disease resistance. This way, when fighting vampires, you will be less likely to contract the Bleed Vampiris.
  • You can cure vampirism by becoming a werewolf, but gaining the advantages and disadvantages of being a werewolf. To start the quest that will turn you into a werewolf, you will need to go to Whiterun and talk to the people affiliated with the "Circle of Comrades".
  • Should Falion attack you because you are in the fourth stage of vampirism (in which you openly manifest your vampire nature), you will need to create a special potion to lower his level of hostility towards you. This potion also works with innkeepers.

Warnings

  • If you are a fourth stage vampire, you may not be able to talk to Falion. To lower your vampirism level, you need to feed yourself or drink a blood-based potion.
  • Once you have eradicated vampirism from your body, you will not automatically be acquitted of all the crimes you have committed as a vampire.
