The spell table allows you to infuse special abilities into objects making them indestructible or able to repel enemies. You need some rare materials to build it, so be prepared to go on an adventure.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Collect the Materials
Step 1. Dig for diamonds
Diamonds are among the rarest stones in the game and are only found in the depths of the earth. Look for their distinctive blue color in levels 5-12 to have the best chance of finding them. Dig until you reach the parent rock (an indestructible gray block), then return 5-12 blocks above you. Use an iron or gold pickaxe to collect these gemstones.
- Remember, never dig straight down. A "ladder" tunnel protects you from ravines and lava.
- You need two diamonds to build a spell table. You also need a diamond pickaxe to mine obsidian (you need 4 blocks of this material for the spell table), which requires three more diamonds.
- Search levels 11 and 12 to avoid much of the lava.
Step 2. Make obsidian
This material is a dark block that appears only when running water meets lava. You can spawn it yourself using a bucket, which you can build with three iron ingots. Collect lava with the bucket, you can pour it into a pit of at least four blocks. Pour the water from an elevated structure so that it flows over the lava. You should get some obsidian.
Step 3. Dig four obsidian blocks with a diamond pickaxe
Only with this tool can you get the blocks after breaking them.
Step 4. Find or build a book
You can break bookshelves you find in villages or fortresses to get books. Alternatively, you can create them yourself:
- Kill cows or horses until you get some leather.
- Cut three blocks of sugar cane.
- Get three sheets of three sugar cane paper, placing them in a row on the workbench. Sugar cane isn't easy to find, so starting a plantation can help.
- Combine a piece of leather and three sheets of paper to make a book. You can place the materials wherever you like in the grid, as long as they are in separate stacks.
Part 2 of 3: Building and Setting the Spell Table
Step 1. Build a spell table
Select the matching recipe, or combine items as follows in the PC version of the game:
- Top row: blank, book, blank
- Central Rica: diamond, obsidian, diamond
- Bottom row: obsidian, obsidian, obsidian.
Step 2. Place the spell table
Place it in a spot that is two blocks away from everything else on at least three sides, in a room that is at least two blocks high. This gives you the option to upgrade the table with bookshelves, as described below.
Step 3. Build libraries (optional)
These items, when placed close to the table, unlock more powerful spells. To build one, place three books in the middle row of the crafting grid, then fill the other boxes with wooden planks.
More powerful spells cost more experience, so you can skip this step if you are low level
Step 4. Place the bookshelves
To get the best spells, you need fifteen libraries. You need to place them as follows:
- At the same height as the table or exactly one block higher.
- There should be exactly one empty block between the bookcase and the table. Even flashlights or snow can block the effect.
Part 3 of 3: Enchanting Objects
Step 1. Place the item to be enchanted on the table
Right click on the table to open its interface. You can put armor, swords, bows, books and almost any utensil inside it. The item to be enchanted box is the left one in the PC version and the upper one in the Pocket Edition.
You can keep spells in books for later use with an anvil. Directly enchanting items requires a slightly different process
Step 2. Put some lapis lazuli in the second box
In newer versions of Minecraft, each spell consumes 1-3 lapis lazuli. Put the gems in the empty space on the table.
Step 3. Choose one of the three spells
By moving the mouse over the items you will be able to read the names of the spells. There is a possibility that the item will also receive other buffs, chosen at random.
- You can't reset available voices without enchanting something. By blocking the path to a library, you will reveal lower level options.
- Each type of item has the ability to receive different spells.
Step 4. Learn about spell costs
You will always find three entries in the spell table. The highest is the weakest: it costs a lapis lazuli and an experience level. The middle option costs two lapis and two tiers, the lower three gems and three tiers.
The number next to each entry is the spell level. In order to use it, your character must have reached that level. The cost of experience does not vary
Advice
- If a recipe or spell doesn't work as it should, update Minecraft to the latest version available. In the Pocket Edition, spell tables were introduced in version 0.12.1. The PC version has seen many changes in regards to enchantment.
- Some tools cannot be enchanted, such as the steel and the shears. You can upgrade some of them by combining them with a book thanks to the anvil.
