Step 1. Make the powder first

Use one of the following options:

  • Slowly mix the color (cocoa powder or spice) with the powdered maranta root. When you have reached the desired color, stop. There are no specific doses, so experiment until you get the right shade for your skin.

To speed up the method in the future, remember the doses used at the end and write them down

  • Mix 2 parts of powdered maranta root, 1 part of green clay, and add the cocoa powder. Stir until you get the perfect color for you.

  • Jojoba oil

Step 3. Put the mixture in a container and use it with a brush, or add more liquid to make the foundation less dense

Method 3 of 3: Mineral Powder Foundation

This recipe is much more complex. It also carries risks (read warnings below) and none of the mineral ingredients need to be breathed in, so wear a mask. If you choose such a complex recipe, make sure you know what you need to do, it is recommended that you have experience in the field of cosmetics, for example knowing how to create complex cosmetics. Alternatively, get some mica and add it to the previous recipe (method 2).

Advice

  • Use a powder that is similar in color to your skin.
  • Don't overdo it in case it's not good for your skin.
  • Use it as an alternative to a regular liquid foundation.

Warnings

  • If you decide to make a mineral foundation here are some tips to follow:

    • Mica is a silicate mineral. Soil rich in mica can cause irritation; if this happens, avoid it, but most people don't have a problem.
    • Silicate is safe, but it also comes with a number of problems. Find out before you decide to use it.
    • Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are present in most sun creams and could be carcinogens. Until further research is done, it is recommended to avoid them.
    • Kaolin brings problems. Research this product to see if it is right for you.
    • The iron oxide appears to be rust. It is a synthetically prepared inorganic product often used in cosmetics; if you use it make sure you know its characteristics.
    • All these powders are very harmful if you breathe in.
  • Avoid the eye area when applying any type of foundation.
