With one of the methods below, you can create a water-based fluid that will glow in the dark. According to the chosen method, the liquid could last even longer than commercially available light sticks. Later, you will even find a method to make flowers glow in the dark! This guide can be followed by children and adults,
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Use a black light bulb
Step 1. Get these materials:
- A fluorescent yellow highlighter
- A steak knife or fine-toothed saw (optional)
- A glass
- A black light bulb
Step 2. Put on rubber gloves to avoid staining your hands
Step 3. Put a glass in the sink and turn on the water to let it drip
Step 4. Open the highlighter to take out the ink tube
- Alternatively, you can cut it in half with a knife or saw to extract the ink.
- The ink tube is a cylinder of cotton-like material filled with yellow ink wrapped in plastic.
Step 5. Run the water between the fibers of the tube to collect the ink in the glass
You will see that the ink will be pulled out very easily and the cotton-like material will turn white. Using as little water as possible will help you maintain the effect of the ink.
Step 6. Use a black light bulb to illuminate your bottles
- The liquid will only shine when the black light is on.
- You can buy black light bulbs at stores that sell lighting items or on the internet.
Method 2 of 2: Create Flowers that Glow in the Dark
Step 1. Using a technique similar to Method 1 described above, you can create flowers that glow in the dark
You will need:
- Flowers with white petals (such as white carnationsolnvfv)
- The ink tube of a fluorescent highlighter
- A glass of water
- A black light bulb
Step 2. Put some water in a glass, vase or similar container
Step 3. Remove the ink tube from a fluorescent highlighter and squeeze a few drops into the container filled with water
-
Don't use too much ink; certainly not all the tube, as in method 1.
-
Shake the container until the ink has mixed well with the water.
Step 4. Put the base of the white flower stem in the solution and cut the stem under the water
Step 5. Leave the flower in the solution overnight to absorb it
Step 6. Turn on the black light and brighten the day and observe its luminescence
Advice
To add a blue tint to your bottles, add some tonic water
Warnings
- The highlighter ink will stain anything it touches. Be careful and keep it away from clothing and surfaces. It is not toxic or dangerous to humans, but it is not edible.
