League of Legends, also known as LoL, is a free MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena). If you want to learn how to play, you can read on for a simple description of how the game works, purpose and strategies.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Choosing the Game Mode
Step 1. Play in PvP mode (player versus player, player versus player)
In this mode, all champions (controllable characters) are used by real players and not by the computer. There are a few different modes within this type of game:
- Classic - In this mode, players try to destroy the enemy Nexus (the main structure).
- Domination - in this mode, the aim of the game is to try to gain control of some capture points (very similar to the towers you will encounter in classic mode).
- ARAM - in this mode, all player champions are chosen randomly, and there is a single path where all players will have to fight.
Step 2. Play Co-op vs AI
In this type of match, you will play in a team of player-controlled champions against computer-controlled opponents (or bots).
Only classic and domination modes are available in these types of games
Step 3. Play a custom game
In a custom game, you can choose the number of players and create a password to protect it so that only your friends can join. Teams can be made up of any combination of players and bots.
Step 4. Choose a map
Choosing the map means choosing the environment in which you will play. In addition, this decision will determine the number of players for each team and the type of matches available. They are easy to see, so choose the map that suits the type of game you want to play.
Step 5. Choose the type of game
This will determine how the swatches are selected. In a blind pick game, players cannot see which champions have been chosen by their opponents. In a draft pick game, players can ban the use of 6 champions and view opponents' choices. Ranked matches are more competitive and are made up of players who have entered a leaderboard and are matched based on their level of play. The type of selection is the draft pick.
Step 6. Invite your friends
You can invite your friends to any type of match. Click on "I will invite my teammates" when you see the button at the bottom right after selecting the last option (game type or difficulty).
Step 7. Use Riot Points
These are points that can be purchased for real money and you can see them in the top right of the screen next to your name. They are used to purchase new champions, new graphics for champions, or enhancements, boosts (they increase the rewards in Influence Points you receive at the end of each game).
Step 8. Use Influence Points
This is another currency that you can spend in-game, but which you will earn by completing matches. You can use them to unlock champions, buy runes or other items.
Part 2 of 3: Choosing the Character
Step 1. Choose a character
After agreeing to join a match, you will need to choose your champion. The choice of champion is very important, so don't just choose the one that looks best to you. You will have to make the choice based on your style of play and the needs of your team. There are many roles in Lol, but here are a few:
- Tanks are champions with a lot of life, armor, and magic resist, which should make up the front line of the team. They don't deal much damage, but they help the team by drawing enemy fire.
- Fighters are similar to tanks, but deal more damage. Their purpose is usually to help weaker champions.
- Sharpshooters are relatively weak defensive champions, but excel at long-range attacking. They are often targeted by enemy attacks, so they need to be protected. Mages are very similar to sharpshooters.
- Support champions are the ones who have to help all other team members. They usually have the ability to offer a shield or heal their allies.
- Assassins are champions that deal a lot of damage in a short time. Their aim is to eliminate enemies quickly and stay hidden between kills.
Step 2. Pay attention to the attributes of the characters
Attributes determine the effectiveness of your attacks and armor, the amount of hit points, and the amount of mana your champion has. Each character has a main attribute (one superior to the others), which greatly influences his style of play. Attributes increase with level (except Ability Power and Magic Resist).
- Attack power determines the damage the champion deals with basic attacks. High attack power is the key quality for a good sharpshooter.
- Defensive power affects some stats like hit points and armor, and makes your character more resilient. Characters with high defensive power make excellent tanks.
- Ability Power affects the mana and magical damage characters are able to deal. Characters with high magical power are excellent wizards. Characters with high magical power need to make great use of their abilities to be effective in battle, so make sure you are familiar with those of the character you choose.
Step 3. Buy the items
When you enter the map, you will find yourself next to the shop where you should buy some items. You can purchase consumable items (potions, sighting wards, etc.), items that improve your stats, armor to protect you with, and magical items to increase damage (if your character uses magic).
You will purchase the items with gold. You will be able to earn gold passively (it will increase every few seconds) or by eliminating enemy champions and soldiers, destroying enemy towers and in many other ways
Part 3 of 3: Knowing the Strategies
Step 1. Choose a strategy to win
There are three main paths in the classic map, Summoner's Rift (two in the Demon Forest and none clearly defined in the Valley of Crystals). These paths are called lines. During the game, you and your opponents will spend most of the time in the lines, where you will fight to be able to reach and destroy the turrets and finally the Nexus. You and your teammates will have to decide how to manage your lines.
Step 2. Work with your mates
Team up to slowly kill enemies. Remember, the aim of the game is not to eliminate enemies, but to destroy their towers and their Nexus. Remember that soldiers, the little monsters you can't control, are also part of your team. They are essential to win the game and as a protection. They will fight with the enemy soldiers and try to destroy the towers, protecting you from the damage they can inflict, because the towers will target the soldiers first.
- Stay behind the soldiers, as they are your main line of defense.
- Soldiers are created every 30 seconds and arrive in single file in the lines.
Step 3. Win by destroying the enemy towers and their Nexus
The game ends when the enemy's main facility, called the Nexus, is destroyed. This property is on the opposite side of the map from where you are. Proceed to this area by destroying the towers blocking your advance.
Of course the opposing team will try to destroy your towers. Protect them at any cost
Step 4. Destroy the enemy inhibitors
When you have destroyed the 3 towers of a line, you can destroy the inhibitor in the same way. This facility does not respond to attacks. Once you've destroyed one, your soldier streaks in that line will be upgraded with a super soldier. These are stronger units with a lot more hit points at their disposal. Use them to distract the enemy and finally be able to destroy the towers of their base and their Nexus.
Step 5. Attack the enemy
Most of the time you will have to take out enemy soldiers, but in some cases you will also fight opposing champions and attack their towers. Attack your enemies, but remember that your aim is to destroy their towers. Don't act rashly and don't be impatient. Take your time to outwit the enemy.
- With the right mouse click you can attack a unit with a basic attack.
- Use and improve your skills throughout the match. Skills are unique to each character. They are assigned by default to the Q-R keys (you will see the corresponding key indicated under the skill). Experiment with skills and find the best ways to use them. Use them to help your mates and yourself.
Step 6. Make sure you take the last hit
This is one of the most important aspects of League of Legends. Only the player who deals the decisive blow to a soldier will receive any money. Similarly, the player who deals the last hit to a champion will be the one who receives the most gold, while the other champions who participated will only receive a portion. Be sure to strike last if your champion needs gold to get stronger (every champion except support ones). Try to hit the soldiers only when their life is low, and only with practice will you be able to master this technique.
Step 7. Don't overlook Baron Nashor and the neutral jungle monsters
There are 5 neutral monster fields in the jungles on both sides of the map that you can clear out for gold and other benefits. There are also two fearsome enemies, the Dragon and Baron Nashor, who offer great gold rewards for the whole team and must be faced by multiple champions at the same time. The Baron in particular will often require the presence of all five squad members, but offers plenty of gold and upgrades in return. Never try to deal with it alone.
Step 8. Heal yourself to stay alive
Your hit points are represented by the green bar at the bottom center of the screen and above your character. The easiest way to heal yourself is to go back to base by pressing the "B" button. You can also purchase health potions, but they will only help you at the start of the game when you have few hit points available. In some cases, even support players can help you stay alive.
Step 9. Don't die
Your goal in strategy games like this doesn't have to be to get more kills, but rather to stay alive. To do this, you need skill and patience. Dying involves the loss of experience and gold, and your companions will be greatly disadvantaged in your absence. If you have to choose between eliminating an enemy or staying alive, always choose prudence.
Step 10. Look at your results
When the game is over, you will be able to view the results screen. Here you will be able to see each player's kills, deaths and assists during the match, as well as the items they have purchased and the number of soldiers they have eliminated. Also, if you look under the title, you will be able to see the amount of experience you have earned and the amount of influence points. The more experience points you accumulate, the more your account level will go up, and you can add points to your Masteries and use other Runes to improve your champion's stats. As you level up, you will also have access to more summoner spells.
Advice
- Assign Masteries and Runes according to the champion and summoner spell type you use most often.
- Do not buy runes until you have reached level 20, from which you will be able to buy the level 3 runes, the strongest ones.
- Keep an eye out for enemy champions. If you see that any of them are missing from their line, they may try to attack you by surprise. Inform your teammates of their absence.
- Don't try to play in the jungle until you are familiar with the game, the jungle monsters and the champion you are using. Also at low levels, without the right skills, fighting jungle monsters is difficult.
- Don't attack enemy champions near their turret, otherwise the turret will attack you and deal a lot of damage to you. Do this only if you are sure you can take out your enemy and survive. If a tower is not defended by any champion, wait for your soldiers to attack it and use them to absorb the tower's attacks as you try to destroy it. Or, you can take advantage of this moment to take out approaching enemy soldiers undisturbed. This way after you take out the enemy soldiers, your soldiers will be able to focus on the tower, dealing more damage to it than you. Watch out for ambushes though!
- Follow the Summoner's Code! By following the code you will be able to win more games, and the other summoners will see you as a great teammate by rewarding you with one of the rewards available in the game.
Warnings
- If you don't follow the code, you will likely lose the game and be reported by your teammates. These reports can lead to the suspension of your account, in some cases even permanent!
- If you are unable to take criticism, this game is not for you. Your peers will often have no trouble pointing out your mistakes with mockery and mockery.
- Never follow an opponent running towards a turret if you find yourself alone: they will hit you and slow you down, and the opposing champion will take advantage of it to give you the final blow.
