Catching Celebi in Pokemon Crystal has been a subject of controversy ever since a challenge was launched in Japan for who could catch it, which involves receiving a GS Ball item online directly from a Nintendo representative. Nintendo removed the online adapter after the Celebi capture challenge was completely hidden from US players. However, since they only hid the mission, the code remained in the game and can be unlocked via GameShark and other similar devices.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Capturing Celebi with a GS Ball
Step 1. Use GameShark or any other similar device
The only way to get Celebi in Pokemon Crystal is to unlock the Celebi Quest, which is hidden within the game. GameShark can be purchased online.
- If GameShark is not available, you can use Code Breaker or Game Genie. These devices have been tested and used by several players.
- If you plan on using a method other than GameShark, keep in mind that you can risk creating problems in the Pokedex. The safest method is the following.
Step 2. Enter the code
Before doing anything else, launch the game with GameShark or other similar devices and enter the code: 0173D2D0.
- After entering it, go to any Pokemart and buy a GS Ball.
- After purchasing the GS Ball, save your game and shut down.
Step 3. Enter a second code
Log into the game using GameShark (or similar) again and then enter the following code to unlock the mission: 914089DA.
- After entering the code, head to Kurt, who lives in a house in the northwest part of Azalea Town.
- Talk to him and he will take the GS Ball from you.
- Kurt will tell you he'll give it back to you the next day. Follow his instructions and return to get the GS Ball back.
Step 4. Capture Celebi
Now that you have the GS Ball, head to Ilex Forest as suggested by Kurt. The forest is located in the southern part of Johto, just west of Azalea Town. Find the shrine, a small structure inside the Ilex Forest, and after finding it, approach the structure and place the GS Ball in the shrine. At this point Celebi will appear.
- Catch Celebi as you would any other Pokemon: lower its HP or throw a Pokeball that has a very high chance of catching Pokemon without the need to decrease their health.
- The Celebi that appears will be level 30 and has a chance to catch Psychic or Grass types.
Method 2 of 2: Capturing Celebi with a Reset
Step 1. Enter the code: 91C089DA
Using GameShack or similar. Then talk to Kurt.
- Before entering the code, make sure Kurt isn't already checking another Pokeball.
- Kurt will automatically give you a GS Ball, which you can use directly in the Ilex Shrine to capture Celebi.
- Note: You can use this code as many times as you want, but keep in mind that a few resets will be required in order to use it.
Step 2. Fix the resets
There will always be a reset every time you use your code to catch Celebi. In the Dragon Shrine, the master will give you another Dratini for unknown reasons, but this can easily be fixed by talking to him again. Just accept the Dratini, and it will return to normal.
- Another is Sudowoodo's girl. She'll be on her feet again as before, and you'll have to talk to her to get her to go away.
- The man you met before and who told you that there is something hidden in the Underground Chamber that made him escape, will repeat the same thing to you, as if he were talking to you for the first time. Just talk to him one more time and he'll be back to normal.
- Apart from these resets, nothing else of fundamental importance will change in the game.
- After getting Celebi, be sure to save your progress.
