Celebi is a Psychic-Grass-type legendary Pokemon, and is the guardian of the Ilex forest. You can't catch Celebi in the wild, and you can only get it with a glitch that uses Sneasel.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Capturing and Preparing a Sneasel
Step 1. Capture a Sneasel
If you are playing Pokemon Gold or Silver, you can find Sneasel on Route 28 and in the Silver Cavern at night. If you are playing Pokemon Crystal, you can encounter him on the Frozen Path at night.
Step 2. Raise the Sneasel to level 57
The Sneasel will need to know the Beat 'em up move. Note: It is very important that the Fighting Skill is your Sneasel's third move.
Step 3. Rename your Sneasel
Change the Sneasel's name to "XXXXCELEBI", where the four X's represent any four letters. The game will automatically delete these letters afterwards.
Part 2 of 3: Clone a Sneasel
Step 1. Go to any Pokemon Center and save your game
Step 2. Go to the computer in the upper left corner of the Pokemon Center and turn it on to access Bill's PC
Step 3. Deposit the Sneasel in the Pokebox, then move it to another box
The game will ask you to save the game before switching boxes.
Step 4. Confirm the save, but shut down the game before it can be completed
On the screen you should read "Saving … Do not shut down". Once the Gameboy has completely shut down, turn it back on.
Since you are shutting down your device during a save, it is vital that you have a previous save that works, in case something goes wrong
Step 5. Repeat the cloning process until you have four clones
Step 6. Find out if you have a corrupt clone
If you are lucky, you will have created a "corrupt" clone while producing the 4 clones. If not, repeat the cloning process while experimenting with the power button; turning off the Gameboy sooner or later can make the difference between a good or a bad clone. A corrupt clone has these traits:
- The clone name will be a question mark (?) Or it will not be present.
- The clone level will be 0.
- The gender of the clone will be different from that of the original Sneasel and the clones.
Part 3 of 3: Creating Celebi
Step 1. Go to the Pokemon Guesthouse
Step 2. Arrange the Sneasels in this order:
- Slot 1: Original Sneasel.
- Slot 2-5: Valid Sneasel clones.
- Slot 6: corrupt Sneasel clone.
Step 3. Give the corrupt clone to the pensioner, then take it back right away
His name should now be "???????????????".
Step 4. Move the corrupt clone to the first slot
Step 5. Choose "Move Pokemon without Mail" and move a Pokemon to be "sacrificed" from the PC to the first slot
This way the corrupt clone will return to the second slot.
The Pokemon to be "sacrificed" will be deleted in the following steps
Step 6. Log out of the PC and give the corrupt clone back to the pensioner
Don't take it back right away.
Step 7. Turn the PC back on and deposit your Pokemon to be sacrificed and your four valid clones
Shut down your PC again.
Step 8. Return to the guesthouse and take back the corrupted clone, then ask him to breed the original Sneasel
Step 9. Take back the original Sneasel from the pensioner
His name will have changed and your Sneasel will have become a Celebi!
Step 10. Eliminate all Pokemon you used for the glitch (all clones and the Pokemon to sacrifice)
Advice
- Until September 30, 2014 Nintendo offered free Celebi as a bonus for launching the Pokemon bank.
- This method can be used to get any Pokemon, if you know its hex identifier.
- When creating a corrupt clone, try to shut down the game immediately after choosing "Yes", without waiting for the "Saving …" message.
- You can also get a Celebi with a trade.
