Hickeys are formed when an intense suck or a strong bite breaks the capillaries that run under the skin. Most of the times they are signs that you are trying to hide but, if instead you have decided to simulate one, here you will find some methods to create a real one, or to simulate its appearance.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Simulate a Pacifier with a Bottle
Step 1. Decide where you want to create the hickey
Generally, pacifiers are on the neck, but another good choice can be a chest area.
If you decide to do it on your neck, make sure it is on the sides and not in the area under the chin or in the center (above or near the Adam's apple), so that it is more likely
Step 2. Get a 2 liter plastic bottle
You will need it to create the fake hickey. Take the bottle in your hands and press the middle part of it.
Before starting, it is advisable to stand in front of a mirror, in order to better check what you are doing
Step 3. Place the mouth of the bottle on the skin
Place the opening where you have decided to create the pacifier. It must adhere completely to the skin (to maximize suction), then release the compressed part. Hold the bottle in place for about 15 seconds, then pull it away from your skin.
Remember that the less air there will be in the bottle (and therefore the more you squeeze it before starting), the more forcefully the skin will be sucked in; in this way the pacifier will form faster and will be much more evident
Step 4. Decide whether to enlarge the hickey further
Since the mouth of the bottle is perfectly circular, you could move the bottle an inch or two and repeat the process. You won't need to create a second hickey as intense as the first, so you just need to squeeze the bottle less or remove it before 15 seconds have passed.
Since a person's mouth has a roughly oval shape, widening the pacifier laterally will give it a more realistic appearance
Method 2 of 3: Simulate a Soother with Eyeshadow
Step 1. Decide where you want to create the hickey
You can make it anywhere on the body, but the most common parts are the sides of the neck and chest.
If you decide to do it on your neck, make sure it is on the sides and not in the area under the chin, nor in the center (above or near the Adam's apple), so that it is more likely
Step 2. Get eyeshadows of various colors
Get a palette with a wide choice of colors, remembering that you will mainly need dark pink, dark purple and dark blue.
- Use a small make-up brush to apply the eyeshadow.
- Remember that if you are dark-skinned you will need to use darker colors, so that the mark stands out better.
Step 3. Apply the pink eyeshadow
Stand in front of a mirror, then tap the brush a couple of times into the dust; check that you are working in the area you have chosen, then move it on the skin by making small ovals, about 1.5-2.5 centimeters.
Be careful not to load the brush too much with the color: you will have to apply the makeup slowly and gradually
Step 4. Add the purple eyeshadow
Swipe one corner of the brush once in the purple powder, then place it in the center of the hickey. Continue to follow oval trajectories using the entire brush and trying to color the edges of the area with purple.
If you have any doubts about the color, use the lighter shades: you will be able to darken the area later, while it will be much more difficult to remove the makeup already applied
Step 5. Apply dark blue
As before, pass a corner of the brush into your makeup and place it back in the center of the hickey. Follow some oval paths with the brush and try to bring the blue towards the edges.
Since the mark should already have formed by this point, you won't need to add a lot of blue - avoid using too much by shaking off the excess with your finger or running the brush over the edge of a hard surface
Step 6. Fix the makeup
Cover the hickey with a thin layer of hairspray, or use a spray make-up fixer, so that the color lasts longer and does not get dirty on your clothes; in doing so it will remain in place until you decide to eliminate it by washing it.
Method 3 of 3: Simulating a Pacifier with Alcohol Colors
Step 1. Decide where you want to create the hickey
You can make it anywhere on the body, but the most common parts are the sides of the neck and chest.
Step 2. Get the alcohol makeup
These colors are used very often for film and theater productions, as they resist sweat and have a long lifespan.
Oily-based colors can be an alternative, even if they don't last that long and tend to melt slightly due to body heat
Step 3. Pour a small amount of alcohol onto a paint palette
Open a bottle of denatured alcohol and place a cotton swab on the opening; turn the bottle upside down for a second, then return it to the upright position. Now squeeze the soaked cotton wool in the center of the palette to obtain a small "pool" of solvent.
The alcohol that you have placed on the palette will be the activator in which to dip the make-up sponge before applying the color
Step 4. Wet a sponge with alcohol
Place the rough part of an applicator sponge in the alcohol, then squeeze it to distribute the solvent evenly; finally dry it with absorbent paper to remove any excess liquid.
Stand in front of a mirror before continuing
Step 5. Apply the first layer of color
Lightly tap the red sponge. Lay one corner of the applicator flat on the skin, so as to create a small oval about 1, 25 cm long and half as wide.
Try to punctuate the area as much as possible, making it appear more natural and realistic
Step 6. Switch the second layer of color
Use the same sponge as before and dip it in the dark blue: this way, the red used previously will mix with the new color, creating a purple very similar to that of a real bruise. Place the sponge very gently in the center of the pacifier, trying to obtain an effect similar to that of broken capillaries.
