Netflix is an on-demand internet service, related to watching streaming content such as movies and TV shows. This is a subscription service that offers unlimited access to your content upon payment of a monthly fee. Netflix content is accessible from a large number of devices, including the Nintendo Wii video game console. This guide shows you how to configure your Nintendo console to access the Netflix service directly from the Wii dashboard.
Steps
Step 1. Connect your Wii to the internet
The option to configure the console's network connection is found in the "Connection Settings" menu.
- To access the "Link Settings" menu, press the "Wii" button located in the lower left corner of the main menu, then select the "Wii Console Settings" item.
- The "Internet" option is the second of the "Wii Console Settings" menu that appeared.
- To select one of the options, place the pointer over it and press the "A" button.
Step 2. Enter the "Wii Channels" menu
It is located within the "Wii Shop Channel" menu.
- Select the "Wii Shop Channel" icon at the top right of the main menu, then press the "A" button.
- If this is your first time using this console feature, you will need to accept the terms and conditions for using the "Wii Shop Channel" service.
- Select the "Wii Channels" icon located in the main "Wii Shop Channel" menu, then press the "A" button.
- Once the upload is complete, select the "Start" item, then choose the "Start shopping" option at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Locate and download the Netflix app from the "Wii Channels" menu
- Search for the Netflix application by scrolling through the list of all available apps. Once located and selected, press the "A" key to view detailed information.
- To start downloading the application, choose the "Free: 0 Wii Point" option or press the "Download: 0 Wii Point" button on the detailed information screen.
- When asked where to install the application in question, choose the "Wii System Memory" option.
- Within the next confirmation screen, press the "OK" button, then choose the "Yes" option to start the download.
Step 4. Wait for the application of your choice to download and install on your console
This step should only take a few minutes.
- When finished, the message "Download complete" will be displayed. Press the "OK" button to continue.
- You should now be able to access the Netflix service directly from the Wii main menu.
Step 5. If you don't have one yet, set up a new Netflix account
To sign up for the Netflix service, you will need to use a computer. Select this link for more information on creating a new Netflix account.
Step 6. Sign into your Netflix profile
To do this, launch the Netflix application from the Wii main menu, then log in using your credentials.
- Choose the "Start" option to enter the channel.
- Select the "Login" item.
- Enter the email address associated with your Netflix account, its password, then press the "Continue" button.
Step 7. Log out of Netflix when needed
If for any reason you want to log out of your Netflix account, unfortunately you will not be able to do so because the Wii GUI does not provide a "Sign Out" button. To still log out of the Netflix service, consult this guide.
- Logging out of the Netflix service can be useful for monitoring your children's activities or if you need to delete your personal information from a Wii intended for sale or gift.
- Netflix imposes a limit on the number of devices from which the service can be accessed simultaneously using a single account; it is therefore very likely that you will have to disconnect the Wii from your Netflix account if you want to use the service on a second device.
