Peanuts are rich in fiber, protein, are delicious and immediately cheer up. As a super healthy food you can include them in your daily diet in the form of snacks without feeling guilty. You can eat them as they are, boil them in boiling water, or turn them into fantastic peanut butter.
Ingrediants
Peanut butter
- 300 g of peanuts, shelled, unsalted
- 5-10 g of honey
- 1-3 teaspoons (5-15 ml) of peanut (or corn or sunflower) oil
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of salt
For 300 g of peanut butter
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Eat Peanuts
Step 1. Break and remove the shell to eat the peanuts
If you bought whole peanuts, squeeze the shell between your fingers until it breaks. Take out the peanuts and discard the shell fragments. In most cases, peanuts will fall out of the shell as soon as you break it, but sometimes you may have to gently pull them out with your fingers.
- Place the peanuts in one container and the shell fragments in another to make cleaning easier.
- Technically, the peanut shell can be eaten, but it is not easy to digest. In addition, it could be contaminated with pesticides.
Step 2. Eat about 28g of peanuts per day to meet your body's nutritional needs
You can eat a 28g serving of peanuts every day, for breakfast or as a snack, to ensure you are getting the right amount of nutrients.
Peanuts have a healthy content of fiber, protein and important nutrients that can reduce the risk of developing heart disease
Step 3. Try peanuts in different versions:
raw, boiled and toasted. If you want to try them boiled, shell them as you normally do (or put them in your mouth whole and bite them out of their shells). By chewing on boiled peanut shells, you can extract small amounts of delicious juice. Roasted peanuts are tastier and, like raw ones, are best served as a snack.
Generally, peanuts can also be eaten raw. However, in order not to take any health risks, it is better to buy them only from local and certified producers
Method 2 of 3: Add Peanuts to Other Recipes
Step 1. Sprinkle them on the salad to enrich it with protein
Add them to the salad before dressing and stir it or sprinkle them on the finished dish to garnish and make it more appetizing. Peanuts go well especially with salads typical of Thai and Asian cuisine in general.
Step 2. Use them to decorate an ice cream cup
Distribute them generously over the ice cream to give it a crunchy and savory note. Add some chocolate syrup and whipped cream for an irresistible dessert.
Peanuts go especially well with dark chocolate and caramel. You can also crumble pretzels over ice cream to accentuate the crunchy, tangy note of the peanuts
Step 3. Top off the pad thai with peanuts for a crunchy, flavorful note
Make or order pad thai at home and garnish it with a generous spoonful of salted peanuts to make it even more appetizing. In addition to the crunchy and savory note, peanuts also provide a good dose of protein. Their taste goes perfectly with that of the other pad thai ingredients.
Method 3 of 3: Make Peanut Butter
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and pour the shelled peanuts into a baking dish
Shell 300 g of peanuts, then transfer them to a baking tray, taking care to arrange them in a single layer. By gently shaking the pan you should be able to distribute them evenly. You can use a baking sheet or cake pan.
Step 2. Toast the peanuts in the oven for 3 minutes, then gently remove and shake the pan
Set the cooking time on the timer. After 3 minutes, put on your oven mitts, take out the pan and shake it to rotate the peanuts and toast them on the other side as well.
If you prefer, you can mix the peanuts with a wooden spoon, trying to turn them upside down
Step 3. Return the pan to the oven and toast the peanuts for another 5-7 minutes or until they acquire an amber tint
After the first few minutes, don't lose sight of them as they tend to burn easily. When they start to take on a golden hue and give off a nice nutty scent, they are ready.
Step 4. Take them out of the oven and let them cool
Place the pan on a heat-resistant surface and let the peanuts cool until you can touch them without burning yourself. This will take approximately 5 minutes.
Step 5. Blend 50g if you want the peanut butter to have a coarse texture
Pour 50 g of roasted peanuts into the blender, close it with the lid and turn it on at short intervals 6-8 times. Transfer the coarsely pureed peanuts to a small bowl and save them for later.
Step 6. Pour the honey, salt and the rest of the peanuts into the blender
Blend the ingredients for a minute or until they begin to stick to the walls. At that point, lift the lid and scrape the sides of the blender with a spoon or spatula to facilitate the work of the blades.
Step 7. Add the oil and blend until the peanut butter looks shiny
Add 1 to 3 teaspoons (5-15 ml) of oil (use a little if you want the peanut butter to have a thick consistency or a little more if you prefer it creamy). Continue blending, after 2-3 minutes the peanut butter should become shiny.
Step 8. Add the peanuts that you blended coarsely to give the butter a crunchy note
Stir with the spoon to incorporate them into the peanut butter. You can add them all or just a part, depending on the result you want to get.
