Catching a legendary Pokemon like Zekrom requires technique and strategy. Against this powerful Dragon and Electric-type Pokemon, normal Poke Balls are useless. Guides usually recommend catching Zekrom with the Master Ball, but you may want to save it for even stronger Pokemon. Start with Step 1 to learn how to catch Zekrom the first time you encounter him, and add one of the most powerful Pokemon in the entire series to your party.
Steps
Step 1. Prepare for battle
You will have the first chance to capture Zekrom directly after defeating the Elite Four. Zekrom is an extremely dangerous Legendary Pokemon. When you face him, he will be at level 50. That said, you should have a good team that can take him on an equal footing. Stock up on healing items and orbs to catch this legendary Pokemon.
- You will receive a Master Ball after defeating the Elite Four which you can use, but you may decide to save it for more difficult Pokemon like Volcarona and Kyurem.
- You can only catch Zekrom in Pokemon White. If you are playing Pokemon Black, you can only get Zekrom with one trade.
Step 2. Defeat the Elite Four
Before reaching the main castle where Zekrom is located, you will need to defeat the Pokemon league. You will have to face Pokemon of many types, so make sure you have a full team to beat them.
After defeating the Elite Four, activate the glowing statue to descend inside the mountain. After a scene, you will be taken to the castle of N
Step 3. Make room for Zekrom
When you catch Zekrom, you can add him to your party right away if you have less than 6 Pokemon with you. You can find a PC to deposit one of your Pokemon on the third floor. On the second floor of the castle you can heal your team.
You can leave the castle if you need to buy items or level up your Pokemon. Go to the third room from the right on the third floor of the castle. Talk to the Plasma Henchman and you can be teleported out. When you're ready to return, talk to the Henchman in the Pokemon League Pokemon Center
Step 4. Find Zekrom
You will find N at the top of the tower. After a video, Zekrom will be summoned. You will have the option to save your game, and then to talk to Zekrom to start the battle. Make sure you save to be able to try again in case the fight fails.
Step 5. Fight against Zekrom
Use your strongest Pokemon to reduce Zekrom's health. One strategy is to use a Pokemon with the Pit or Sub ability to avoid Zekrom's powerful attacks such as Crack Thunder. Remember that Zekrom will be level 50 when you fight him.
- Zekrom is weak to Ice, Ground, and Dragon-type attacks.
- Since you want to catch Zekrom, you'll need to get him down to a few life points without defeating him! Once his health is red, he starts throwing Ultra Balls. Keep reducing health and throwing orbs until you catch him.
- If you fail to capture Zekrom on this occasion, you will have another chance on the seventh floor of the Dragospira Tower, which you can find north of Cirropolis. This is also where you can find Zekrom in Black 2 after receiving the Dark Stone from N.
