This article explains how to find the altitude of a place on Google Maps using an Android phone or tablet. Although altitude data is not available in all areas, it is possible to use the topographic map to make an estimate in the more mountainous regions.
Steps
Step 1. Open Google Maps on your Android device
The icon looks like a map and you can find it on the home screen or in the app drawer.
Step 2. Tap the menu ≡
It is located in the upper left.
Step 3. Scroll down and tap Emboss
The map will be modified so that you can see the reliefs, such as hills, valleys and passes.
Step 4. Zoom in on the map to be able to see the contour lines
These are light gray lines that surround areas with different altitudes.
- To zoom in, pinch two fingers together and place them on the map, then separate them by dragging them on the screen.
- To zoom out, pinch the screen with two fingers together.
