This article explains how to use Google Maps on an iPhone or iPad to determine which direction north is.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using the Compass
Step 1. Open Google Maps on your device
The icon looks like a map with a "G" and a red pin. It is usually found on one of the Home screens.
Step 2. Tap the viewfinder button
It is a black circular button that looks like a crosshair and is located in the lower right corner of the map.
Step 3. Tap the compass icon
It sits above the viewfinder button and features a red and a white tip.
Step 4. Look for the "N" on the compass
The map will be repositioned so that the red compass arrow points north. Thanks to the "N" you'll know it's pointing north.
