Eyelash extensions are gorgeous and allow you to do your makeup much faster in the morning. If you take good care of them, they will always look good and you can use them for longer before they need to be replaced. Cleaning is an easy and important procedure to prevent irritation, infections, blepharitis and other ailments that can damage the eyes. You simply have to wash them with a mild detergent, comb them and dry them properly.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Wash the hair extensions
Step 1. Look for a mild cleanser that is free of oils and alcohol
Excess oil can cause the adhesive on the extensions to dissolve. Use a facial cleanser or mild soap. You can also use baby shampoo.
- Just remember that baby shampoo can dry out your lashes;
- You can dilute the foaming cleanser with water to make it more gentle.
Step 2. Wash your lashes
Moisten them with warm water, pour some cleanser on your fingers, massage it gently into your eyelids and lashes. Make an up and down motion. Do not make lateral movements and do not pull the hair, in order to avoid losing the extensions or damaging the natural lashes. Rinse well with warm water.
Make sure you wash your lashline well - this is where most bacteria and dirt can accumulate
Step 3. Do not clean your lashes with cotton pads or wipes
The discs can leave fibers in the hair, which must then be removed with extreme care. The wipes, on the other hand, can cause the extensions to melt or detach.
Part 2 of 3: Dry and comb them
Step 1. Once you have washed your lashes, gently pat your face with a towel, but do not touch your eyes to protect the extensions
Let them air dry. To speed up the process, you can wrap toilet paper around your finger and use it to gently pat it dry.
If you want to treat them with particular care, let the toilet paper absorb the water for a few minutes, without dabbing them
Step 2. Blow dry them
Adjust your hair dryer to blow out cold air, then dry your lashes at 10 seconds per eye. Make sure you keep it about an arm away from your face. Do not do this too often to protect the adhesive on the extensions.
Step 3. Comb
Close one eye and gently comb it with a clean, dry mascara brush. Then, again with the brush, untangle and soften them slightly. Do not pass it at the base of the lashes.
Part 3 of 3: Maintaining the Extensions
Step 1. Clean your extensions regularly
Make time to wash them 3-4 times a week, if not every day. Between one wash and another, remove small residues of dirt and dust by moistening them with warm water and combing them gently.
Step 2. Don't make them oily
Prevent your lashes and hairline from coming into contact with products such as shampoos, conditioners or full-bodied creams. For example, to keep them from getting into your eyes in the shower, tilt your head back. Also, try dabbing 70% isopropyl alcohol on the lashline once a week to remove excess sebum secreted from heavy sweating.
Step 3. Don't rub your eyes
Avoid tugging, rubbing, or pulling your lashes. If you don't pay attention, you risk making them loosen and lumpy, not to mention that you could pull real lashes. If they cause itching or other discomfort, see a beautician to have them removed.
Step 4. Make up with care
The powder eyeshadows can be used as usual. Avoid applying eyeliner, except in the corners of the eyes. Do not use the liquid one, as it can damage the extensions. In particular, never use mascara: it will ruin the extensions, also it will make them lumpy to the touch and sight.
