The Kindle for iPad app allows you to have access to Amazon's entire Kindle library without having to tinker with two devices. You can use the application to read all the books purchased and also to buy new content by browsing Amazon with the Safari browser; the books will be downloaded directly from the application. You can even transfer different types of files from your computer to the Kindle app to read them on the go.
Steps
Part 1 of 6: Install the Kindle App
Step 1. Open the App Store
Tap the App Store icon located on your device's Home screen.
Step 2. Search for the Kindle application
To do this, just type the word "Kindle" in the search bar located at the top right of the App Store and then tap the Search button.
Step 3. Install the iPad version of the application
- Choose the version of the iPad application.
- Tap the "Free" button that appears next to the application name in the search results section.
- At this point, tap "Install".
- Enter your Apple ID and password and finally tap OK to start the installation.
Part 2 of 6: Download Previous Purchases
Step 1. Open the Kindle application
Tap the Kindle icon located on the iPad Home screen and launch the application. The icon appears automatically as soon as you successfully download the application.
Step 2. Register iPad in your Amazon account
Enter your Amazon username and password and tap the Login button.
Step 3. Tap the "Cloud" button icon located at the bottom of the screen
This displays all Kindle purchases associated with your account.

Step 4. Tap the book cover to download it to iPad
You can see the list of all the texts you have downloaded in the "Devices" section.
Part 3 of 6: Purchasing New Kindle Content for iPad
Step 1. Open Safari browser from iPad
You cannot buy Kindle books and other Kindle products directly from the app, due to App Store restrictions. Then proceed to open the Amazon website. Open your device's Home screen and tap the Safari icon.
Step 2. Go to the Kindle Store
Type amazon.com/ipadkindlestore in the address bar and tap the Enter key.
To be able to type the above URL you must first tap the address bar
Step 3. If prompted, enter your Amazon credentials
Enter the information needed to validate your account (email address and password) and tap the "Log in via secure server" button.
If you are already signed in, you will automatically be taken to the main page of the Kindle Store
Step 4. Browse the various Kindle books
You can search by title, author or keywords, using the search bar located at the top of the screen, check for offers and bestsellers and other details of your interest.

Step 5. Buy a book
From the product information page, tap the "Buy" and "Read Now" button. The book will automatically download to the Kindle for iPad app and you will be redirected to the app's library. Once the book is downloaded to your device, you can read it at any time.
- All your purchases are also stored in your account, so you can download them to all the devices at your disposal.
- Alternatively, if you want to browse a book, tap the "Send Extract Now" button. An extract of the text will be immediately downloaded to your application, where you can read it and decide whether to buy the complete product or not.
Step 6. Create a Kindle Store icon on the Home page (optional)
This way you can quickly open the Kindle Store in the future.
- Find the "Share" button in the Safari menu bar at the top of the screen. This key looks like a small box with an arrow pointing outward.
- From the drop-down menu with the various icons, choose the "Kindle Store" one and add it to the iPad Home page.
- Tap "Add".
- You should now see the Kindle Store icon on the Home page.
- From the home screen, tap the icon to return to the Kindle Store.
Part 4 of 6: Adding Non-Kindle Content to the Kindle Application
Step 1. Know what you can transfer
In addition to the books you buy on Amazon, you can use the application to read a variety of other formats that are used by the computer. These file types are all supported by the Kindle application:
- Document files (. DOC,. DOCX,. PDF,. TXT,. RTF).
- Image files (.jpgG,.jpg,.gif,.png,. BMP).
- eBook (only in. MOBI format).
Step 2. Download and install the transfer software on your computer
Amazon provides programs for Windows and Mac, which in turn allow you to quickly transfer all files supported by the Kindle application to your iPad.

Step 3. Send compatible documents to the Kindle application
There are three ways to transfer files once you have installed the appropriate program. The methods are the same for both PC and Mac.
- Right-click (or use the Ctrl-click combination with your Mac) on the file and select the "Send to Kindle" command. Choose the iPad from the list of devices.
- Open the "Send to Kindle" application and drag the file into it. Choose the iPad from the list of devices.
- Run the print command, but choose "Send to Kindle" as the printer. At this point a new window will open that will allow you to select the device to send the document to.
Part 5 of 6: Reading a Kindle Book
Step 1. From the Kindle app open the "Devices" tab
At this point you will see a list of all the books you have downloaded on the iPad.
Step 2. Tap the book you want to open
Tap the cover to open the book and start reading it.
Step 3. Use your Kindle manual to learn more about the application
This is because the product is constantly evolving and new functions and features are always proposed. You can learn more about how the application works by tapping the relative icon and choosing "Device" at the bottom of the screen. Find the manual icon and tap it to open it.
Part 6 of 6: Purchases that don't appear
Step 1. Verify that your iPad is connected to a WiFi network or has a cellular data connection
To receive purchases, your device must be connected to the network.
Step 2. Manually synchronize the library
If the texts you bought do not appear within the application, then you need to manually synchronize your purchase history.
Tap the "Sync" button found on the main page of the Kindle application
Step 3. Double check that your payment credentials are correct
Your 1-Click payment information must be valid in order to purchase Kindle books from iPad.

- Check your payment credentials and correct any errors. Make sure the billing information is correct too.
