WhatsApp is a multi-platform instant messaging application that allows users to communicate with each other using their mobile device's data connection or a Wi-Fi network. Its best advantage is being a free application that does not include any additional cost for sending messages, which happens instead in the case of an SMS. If your friend lives in a different country, you can send them a text message completely free of charge. This tutorial shows you how.
Steps
Step 1. Add the recipient to your contacts
This operation cannot be done directly from the WhatsApp application, but must be done directly on the mobile device. The telephone number must be entered in the international format, then it must start with the symbol '+' followed by the country code and finally by the mobile phone number. For the complete list of international prefixes use this link.
- Do not include any '0' before the number and no separator characters between numbers. For example a valid mobile number in China is '+8613130423852'.
- If you don't save your contact's phone number in the correct format, you won't be able to reach them through WhatsApp.
- Contacts residing in the same country as you can be saved without an international prefix (if allowed by local regulation), simply as a mobile phone number. Do not include any significant '0' and no prefixes for using prepaid calling cards.
Step 2. Start WhatsApp from your smartphone
If you have entered your contact's phone number correctly, you will see it automatically appear in your WhatsApp contacts.
Step 3. Select the contact name
If the person you want to contact has a WhatsApp account, you can contact them by sending them a text, multimedia or broadcast message. You can share images, videos and other multimedia files without limits. If your contact does not yet have a WhatsApp account, invite them to be part of this great world yourself.
