Most dogs are so lazy that they can't even catch a cold. This article describes a safe and very easy way to train your dog to paw!
Steps
Step 1. Cupped your hand and put a treat on it
Make sure your dog doesn't eat it while you are getting ready.
Step 2. Put your hand on the floor, still cupped and always with the candy inside
Invite the dog to approach the hand.
Step 3. Let him smell your hand
While he is sniffing, make sure there is a very, very small gap between his fingers so that you can be sure he can only smell the candy.
Step 4. Keep your hand closed until it starts putting the paw on your hand
At this point, give him the prize. Continue this method every day, until he realizes he always has to give you his paw. If there is no treat in the hand, but the dog continues to put the paw, be sure to reward him at the end.
Step 5. If you see that he does not put his paw on your hand, touch it a little and then put your hand in front of the paw
If you see that he still does not understand, take his paw and gently shake it saying "paw" or "high five". Continue this method until you understand. Be gentle when teaching him, especially if he is a puppy.
Advice
- Try to find a treat your dog likes, or he'll never give you his paw with this method.
- Intermittent training works better than continuous training, so don't give it a reward every time your dog knows there is a reward when it puts its paw on your hand. This method increases his desire to give you his paw; it may sound strange, but it works!
- Do this trick no more than 2-4 times a dayotherwise the dog will lose interest and stop doing it.
