Dyeing hair with chalk is very easy, a temporary color solution to use on the hair. The new fashion is to dye the ends of the hair with chalk. Not everyone wants a permanent dye so chalk is a viable alternative: it doesn't damage the hair, it goes away with shampoo and the effect is gorgeous.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Reflections with Chalk
Step 1. Get the colors you want on your hair
People with fair hair will get satisfactory results with any type of plaster; those with darker hair may need brighter colors (fluorescent ones for example).
- For the choice of plaster, avoid:
- Street chalks are too dusty
- Oil-based chalk pastels may stain clothes.
- Dyeing with chalk is not the best if you want to color all your hair. If you only want to dye the tips or make reflections, chalk will do. If you want to dye them all, know that it will take a long time and you will not get the same effect as the reflections. Try following these guides or skip straight to the final part:
- Traditional tint
- Dyed with unnatural colors
- Dye your hair with natural products
- Avoid brushing or combing, this will remove much of the color.
- Avoid wearing light-colored or expensive shirts or you could get stained.
- Try the rainbow effect using 4 or 5 different colors in order of gradient.
- Try some fluorescent colors for a brilliant effect.
- Try dividing your hair into two sections and dyeing one part with one color and the other with another.
- If you plan on doing this often, buy hair-specific chalks. You can also find them at Kiko.
- Try wrapping yourself in a towel so you don't get stained on your clothes. Keep it until your hair is dry, sometimes it may drip even afterwards.
- Use chalks (not wax, you don't need to add oil to your hair) and not street chalks.
- You can put on some film overnight if you prefer, so you won't stain any fabric.
- Gypsum can stain fabrics.
- Don't do this often as it can cause dry hair. Apply conditioner after coloring your hair.
Step 2. Style your hair the way you want
You won't be able to do anything to your hair after applying chalk, so do it now.
Step 3. Take a small bowl with warm water and a clean brush
You won't need a lot of water, the more you use, the less vibrant the color will be.
Step 4. Place a towel on your neck to avoid staining your clothes
Step 5. Start putting some chalk and water on your hair
Dip a small piece of chalk into the warm water. Take the brush, dip it into the water and wet chalk, let it absorb the water and color and start brushing the section of hair you want to dye.
It is advisable to use small pieces of chalk as you will then pass them directly through your hair. If you choose a small piece, remember to use a little water
Step 6. Once this part is finished, take the chalk out of the water and run it through your hair
Take the wet chalk and work on the part of the hair you want to dye. The color will be more intense if you pass the chalk several times in the same area.
If you are dyeing entire strands of hair, start from the roots to the ends
Step 7. Continue dyeing strands of hair until you are satisfied
Color the tips to give the hair a different shade or dye a larger portion. Do what you like best!
Step 8. Blot or shake gently to remove excess plaster
The chalk will give your hair a vibrant color until the next shower and won't ruin it. At the same time, remember a few things:
Step 9. Plates or underwire may set the color
If you want the color to last longer, the plate will be fine. Before straightening your hair, dry it quickly and make sure it isn't too damp.
Step 10. Enjoy your fantastic DIY dye
Method 2 of 2: Color All Hair with Chalk
Step 1. Styling. You won't be able to do anything to your hair after applying chalk, so do it now
Step 2. Put a towel around your neck to avoid staining your clothes
Step 3. Start with damp hair
Chalks are better absorbed when hair is wet, so start wetting the affected hair strands. Coloring all of your hair will take some time, so wet only the strands you will be working with as you go.
Step 4. Start at the roots and move towards the tips, use a piece of wet chalk to pass over the strands
Do as if you were making streaks. Again, the more chalk you use, the more intense the color will be.
Step 5. Continue rubbing the chalk into your hair until your entire head is covered with it
Wet a section of hair with water and rub it with wet chalk - gently for a lighter color, insistently for a stronger color. If you need some color choice ideas, follow these tips:
