If you are concerned about the possible side effects of toxins found in hair dyes, but still want to dye them, there are several natural alternatives. It is impossible to radically change the color (for example to go blonde if you are brunette), but you can enhance the natural one with highlights and other shades.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Lighten Hair
Step 1. Pour 80ml of lemon juice into a spray bottle
It is a natural lightener. You can squeeze 3 lemons or buy ready-to-use pure juice. If you decide to prepare it, remember to filter the seeds.
Step 2. Infuse 2 chamomile tea bags
Just like lemon juice, it has naturally lightening properties. Bring 250 ml of water to a boil and add the sachets. Let them steep for 5 minutes, then add the chamomile to the lemon juice.
Step 3. Add cinnamon and sweet almond oil
These ingredients also have naturally lightening properties, so the final product will be very effective. Measure 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil, then mix them with the other ingredients. If you want, you can substitute sweet almond oil for coconut oil.
Step 4. Spray the solution on the hair
If you want to get only highlights, spray it exclusively on the areas you want to lighten, otherwise all over the hair. Try to do this as evenly as possible, to avoid ending up with a patchy result.
Step 5. Expose yourself to the sun for about 1-2 hours, as heat is needed to lighten the hair
Make sure you apply sunscreen so you don't get burned.
Part 2 of 3: Enhancing the Red Shades
Step 1. Get ½ cup of marigold flowers or marigold petals and 2 teaspoons of hibiscus petals
If you don't have these flowers on hand, you can buy them at an herbalist's or health food store. These flowers are known to bring out the red undertones.
Add more hibiscus petals to further enhance the red undertones
Step 2. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil
Add the flowers and simmer. Leave them to infuse for at least 30 minutes to make the solution even more effective.
Step 3. Pour it into a bottle
Separate the flowers from the liquid with a colander and place the latter in the fridge to keep it fresh.
Step 4. Spray it on wet hair
It is best to use it after a shower. At this point, let your hair dry in the sun. Use it every day until you get the shades of red you want. Herbal products act gradually, meaning the color intensifies with repeated use.
To maintain color, reapply the solution every 3-4 days
Part 3 of 3: Darken Hair with Coffee
Step 1. Prepare the coffee
This drink contains a brown pigment. Measure 1 cup of water and add 1 tablespoon of coffee. Infuse it, then let it cool for 30 minutes.
If you also want to moisturize your hair, add 1 tablespoon of olive or coconut oil
Step 2. Apply the solution evenly
It may help to spread it with a comb to ensure that the pigments are absorbed evenly by the hair.
Step 3. Cover your hair with cling film
You can also use a plastic bag and secure it with a rubber band. Leave the solution on for at least an hour and a half. The longer you let it act, the darker your hair will become, because a warm microenvironment is created thanks to the plastic. The heat opens the cuticles of the stem, favoring the deposition of pigments.
Step 4. Rinse your hair with water
Don't shampoo. If you haven't added olive or coconut oil, you can use a conditioner after rinsing the solution.
