Sunflowers are magnificent flowers. The name is given by their huge and flamboyant blooms, whose shape and image is often used to represent the sun, in addition to the fact that during the day the bloom follows the movement of the sun (hence the name turns sun). This flower has a hard, hairy green stem, with brown fuzz in the center. It has about 1000-2000 single flowers joined together forming yellow petals. It can be grown almost anywhere. With the right growing techniques and good care, these flowers can enhance your garden and beautify your home. Follow these simple steps to care for sunflowers, whether they are in the ground outside or in a pot indoors.
Steps
Step 1. Find a place to plant them
Sunflowers need a lot of sun, as their name might suggest. They need direct sunlight for at least six hours a day. They also lean towards the direction of the sun, so keep that in mind; if you want them to grow in a certain way, you have to evaluate where they will bend.
Step 2. Mix manure (from horse, cow, dog) into the soil where the flowers will grow
Their ideal soil is pure soil and not rocky or sandy soil.
Step 3. Place the seeds half a centimeter deep in the soil
They should also be at least 30 - 45 cm apart from each other.
Step 4. Water them every day
This helps the stems support the weight of the sunflowers head. How much to water them? At least 240 ml. Pour some water on your head and the rest on the surrounding soil.
Step 5. Feed your sunflowers
You should do this regularly with a development solution, such as "Miracle Grow". Do not pour fertilizer directly on the roots, as they may rot. Instead, make a couple of holes, about 7.5 - 10 cm deep, around the plant and pour fertilizer into the holes.
Step 6. Check the weather forecast, as strong winds can damage them
If winds are forecast, don't water that day, as this decreases the chances of your flowers being blown away.
Advice
- Do not give too much water, the flowers may die.
- It is not necessary to check sunflowers too much if they are planted in the right place. However, if the area is very windy or there is too much shade, it becomes necessary. Avoid planting flowers in shady areas.
Warnings
- Birds, squirrels, and small animals are not good friends with sunflowers.
- Many sunflowers can take at least 70 to 90 days to mature. Read the instructions on the seed packet for more information.
