Make your next beach party truly amazing by building an arched entrance under which your guests can pass. Although it may seem complicated, the project is very easy and not expensive at all.
Steps
Part 1 of 3: Assessing the Needs of the Party
Step 1. Decide where to place the arch
It is essential to understand which area of the party area is large enough to allow you to install the entrance and how many balls you will need.
Step 2. Evaluate whether the arch should "frame" the party or serve as an entrance under which guests can pass
You could create an arch as a background for the photos, so you won't have to take into account the height of the people and so on.
-
Take the measurements of the area where you want to place the arch. Calculate both the height and the width to figure out how many beach balls and how many tubes you will need.
Step 3. Evaluate the support structures
Even if the arch must be self-supporting, it is still advisable to find an anchor point, especially if you are organizing an outdoor party (in case the wind can lift / move the arch).
Part 2 of 3: Purchase the Materials
Step 1. Buy the beach balls and tubes
The arch will be built with the balls that will form both the "walls" that will be fixed to the ground, and the actual upper arch.
-
Find a pump to inflate the whole thing. It will make the operations faster and at the same time you will not get dizzy (risk you would run if you inflated the balloons by mouth).
-
Consider purchasing balls and tubes of different sizes. You could start with large elements at the base of the structure which then gradually become smaller towards the top.
-
Use small air chambers to join the balloons together. Put a large one on the ground, add the balloon and then put the smaller air chamber.
Step 2. Get some latex glue
The arch is able to remain standing even without adhesive, however it is better to be safe and add some glue so that the various elements do not fall in case they are bumped.
Step 3. Add props and embellishments
For example, you can be extravagant and buy some sand to surround the base of the arch and add a beach towel as a "red carpet" for your guests to pass through.
Part 3 of 3: Building the Arch
Step 1. Inflate all the material
You can use an electric or battery operated pump to avoid getting sick by inflating everything with your mouth.
Step 2. Stack the tubes and balloons without using glue
You must first do some tests to make sure you like the structure before making it final.
-
You can ask for the help of a friend to support the upper part of the arch. The smaller air chambers must fix each balloon in its place.
Step 3. Add the adhesive to each ball and tube
You will need to hold each element in place until the glue begins to adhere. Continue to apply the adhesive as you proceed with the construction, to be sure that the structure arches in the right places (instead of mounting the arch on the ground and then lifting it).
Advice
- Add embellishment elements, such as sea creatures and sunglasses. Glue them to the beach balls that make up the frame.
- Put some lights to distinguish it from the rest of the party.
- Assemble a temporary arch (without glue) and pay homage to the guests with balloons and air chambers at the end of the party.
- Glue some starfish and use some blue balls for an "undersea" party.
