To service your BMW you will also need to reset the service light. This operation is not the same in all BMW car models; the one described in this article will only work for the X5 or X6 (E70 or E71).
Steps
Step 1. Insert the keys into the car and press the "Start / Stop" button only once, without pressing the brake pedal
A lot of lights should now be on in your dashboard.
Step 2. Wait for the warning lights to go out
In some cases, such as with fuel quantity warning lights, it may be necessary to press the "BC" button once on the outermost part of the gauge panel to turn them off.
Step 3. Press and hold the black button, located in the lower left part of the odometer (control panel)
An exclamation mark will appear on the screen, in the middle of the odometer; keep holding the button until the next image appears, then release it.
Step 4. To jump from option to option for each service press the black button once
When you get to the reset option, press and hold the black button until the "Reset" button is visible below the image; at that point, release it. Finally, press and hold again to confirm the reset.
Step 5. Two service options that may be visible in your dashboard need to be reset at a future date (legal vehicle inspection and exhaust gas inspection)
You can do this in a similar way to what you did before, by pressing once to scroll through the numbers and by long pressing to confirm your selection. Attention: it may happen that these service options do not reset. In Australia, for example, these services are unnecessary and can be removed by any BMW dealer; therefore, you cannot reset them manually and to do so you will have to go to your dealer.
