If you've been lucky enough to find ripe, fragrant mangoes from the greengrocer or supermarket, you can use them to make a sweet and delicious juice. If you want, you can customize the taste and texture in a very simple way. For a creamy juice, blend the mango with milk and sugar. If, on the other hand, you prefer that the mango is the only true protagonist of the juice, blend it only with water for a more natural taste. When you feel like trying something new, you can blend the mango with other fruits, mix it with other juices or use spices. Do several experiments to find out what your favorite combinations are.
Ingrediants
- 6 large mangoes or 500g canned mangoes
- 1 liter of water or milk
- 3 tablespoons (36 g) of sugar (optional)
- 70 g ice cubes (optional)
For 4-5 people
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Make Mango Juice
Step 1. Cut the mangoes into pieces about 3 cm in size
Place the fruit on the cutting board horizontally and cut two slices around the central stone. Make incisions in the pulp of the two slices of mango with the knife, forming a net, then remove the pulp from the peel with a spoon. Now take a small knife and remove the remaining pulp surrounding the stone. From 6 mangoes you should get about half a kilo of pulp.
- Make sure there are no pieces of peel attached to the pulp.
- Depending on the variety and size, you may need more than 6 mangos to get 500g of pulp. For example, mangoes of the "Alfonso" variety are small, so more will be needed.
Step 2. Put the pulp in the blender with water or milk and eventually sugar
If you want the mango flavor to stand out, use a liter of water. If your priority is to get a creamy juice, you can use milk instead of water. Depending on your taste, you can add up to 3 tablespoons of sugar to make the juice even sweeter.
- You can use coconut milk for a lighter option, which is also suitable for vegans.
- If you don't want to use sugar, you can sweeten the juice in another way, for example with honey or maple syrup. However, if the mangos are sweet and ripe, they may not be needed.
Step 3. Blend the ingredients for 30 seconds or until the juice is smooth and homogeneous
Cap the blender and turn it on. Continue blending until the mango is completely pureed and perfectly blended with the water or milk.
Suggestion:
for an icy and creamy version, add 70g of cubed ice before you start blending.
Step 4. Filter the juice as desired
If the fruit was very fibrous, you can consider filtering the juice before drinking it. Place a colander over a pitcher and pour the mango juice into it. The liquid part will flow into the jug, while the fibrous parts will remain in the colander.
- Throw away what's left in the colander after filtering the juice.
- If the pulp was soft or you don't mind the juice being thick, you can avoid straining it.
Step 5. Serve the mango juice
If you prefer to drink it cold, put a few ice cubes in the glasses before pouring the juice. If you want, you can keep a few slices of mango to use to decorate the glasses.
If there is any leftover juice, cover the jug and place it in the refrigerator. You can keep it for a couple of days at the most and, unfortunately, there is no way to extend its shelf life. The only possible solution is to freeze it to keep it up to 4 months
Method 2 of 2: Variants
Step 1. Add more juices to make a refreshing, non-alcoholic cocktail
Mango goes well with all other fruits, so you can mix the juice to your liking, for example by combining it with that of:
- Pineapple;
- Fishing;
- Orange;
- Apple;
- Redberry.
Step 2. Use ginger or mint to enrich the taste of the mango juice
If you want to give it a tangy and spicy aftertaste, peel and finely slice a couple of inches of fresh ginger, then put it in the blender before you start blending the ingredients. For a fresh and aromatic aftertaste, you can use a handful of fresh mint leaves.
You can also experiment with fresh herbs, for example you can try different varieties of basil, such as lemon basil or cinnamon basil
Suggestion:
you can use your favorite spices, for example cardamom, cinnamon or powdered ginger. To start, add half a teaspoon (1 g) to the mango juice, then taste and possibly correct to taste.
Step 3. Use yogurt if you want to make mango lassi, the popular Indian drink
Blend 125ml yogurt with 250ml mango juice and 2 ice cubes. If you want to sweeten the lassi, you can also add a teaspoon (4 g) of sugar or honey.
- For a lighter version of mango lassi, also suitable for vegans, use soy yogurt.
- If you want, you can use fruit yogurt or the flavor of your choice to make the lassi even sweeter and more delicious. For example, you can use mango, strawberry, peach or vanilla flavored yogurt.
Step 4. Blend the juice with the lemonade to take advantage of the goodness and properties of the mango and lemon together
For a mango juice with sour notes, mix the juice with the same amount of lemonade. Taste the result to decide whether to add a sweetener, such as honey or sugar syrup.
To play with exotic flavors, mix mango juice with lime lemonade
Step 5. If you want to make the juice more nutritious and complete, you can enrich it with other fresh fruit or vegetables
Make a super-healthy smoothie by adding 175g of fresh fruit, such as strawberries, peaches, blueberries, or bananas. If the blender is powerful enough, you can also include bits of carrot, kale, or spinach.
