After the endless hours spent chasing Munchlax in the honey trees it is time to start the real work. Or maybe you are proud of your new Snorlax puppy and just want him to evolve healthy and strong. Either way, you need a high friendship score (220 or higher) and know Munchlax's tastes to be able to evolve your new friend.

Method 1 of 2: Becoming Friends
Step 1. Find out your friendship score
Unfortunately, regardless of training, Munchlax cannot evolve without a friendship score of 220 or higher. Depending on the version of Pokémon you are playing, there are various options for checking the friendship status. The most common are:
- Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum have the "Friendship Check" feature as part of the PokéKron.
- In HeartGold and SoulSilver, you can gauge friendship by the phrase that appears when you interact with a Pokémon outside its sphere.
- In Black and White, the Pokemon Fan Clubs of Zephyr City and Mystery City host characters capable of evaluating the status of friendship.
- In Pokémon White 2 and Black 2, you can find out the friendship status in the Icirrus City Pokémon Fan Club and by talking to Bianca.
- In Pokémon X and Y, you can check out the friendship in Romantopolis and Novartopolis.
- In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire you can follow the same method as in the original games.
Step 2. Walk your Munchlax
Take it with you on your adventures and you will earn +1 friendship for every 128 steps (or +2 for every 256). The speed at which the value increases varies according to the version of the game and the current friendship level.
Step 3. Feed him vitamins or berries that can reduce EVs
Items that make your Pokémon healthy, happy, and strong also increase its friendship level.
Step 4. Don't feed Munchlax bitter things
Throughout your adventures, you will find herbs, roots, and medicines that have various effects on your Pokémon. However, bitter tastes drop Munchlax's friendship level and can delay its evolution.
Step 5. Common bitter items:
- Polvocura
- Dust energy
- Root energy
- Vitalerba
Step 6. Ask for a professional massage
In some versions, you have the option of taking a Pokémon to a resort or to a massage therapist. After a good treatment, you and Munchlax will be even more friends.

Step 7. Use the beneficial effect of Calmanella
You can find this item in various places, such as in the Pokémon Mansion, and in some cases you can receive it from non-player characters. Assign it to Munchlax and your friendship will go up faster.
Step 8. Train Munchlax to level him up
At each level, your friendship will improve.
Step 9. Don't let Munchlax get knocked out
Using the Pokémon in battles is a great way to level it up, but each time it is defeated the friendship score will drop and its evolution will be delayed.
Step 10. Level up after you become great friends
Once the friendship score exceeds 220, Munchlax just needs a little experience or a Rare Candy and he will transform into a giant Snorlax.
Method 2 of 2: Swap in the Black / White Version
Step 1. Exchange a Cinccino for a Munchlax in Spiraria
Please note that this event is synchronized with real world time and is only available in the summer.
Step 2. Capture a Cinccino
You can find it on Routes 5, 9, 16 or in the moving grass in the Cold Storage area.
If you can't catch this Pokémon, you can evolve a Minccino into a Cinccino with a Pietrabrillo. Look for the Minccinos on Routes 5, 9, 16 and in the Cold Storage
Step 3. Raise the friendship level
The Munchlax you receive will be at level 60. Increase the friendship score to 220 or higher using the tips described in the previous section and the Pokémon will evolve at the next level up.
Step 4. Use a Rare Candy to level up the Pokémon
This is the quickest way to evolve Munchlax now that you are good friends. Once the item is used, the evolution animation should begin.
