Scyther is a Bug / Flying-type Pokémon and is a great addition to your Pokémon team. It is very useful in catching other Pokémon thanks to the "False Sweep" move, which is able to lower the target's health level to a minimum without knocking it out. If you want to make your Scyther even more powerful and turn it into a "Bug / Steel" type Pokémon, you can evolve it into its advanced "Scizor" form. The latter, in the X, Y, Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby video games, with the right elements, can further evolve into its "Mega" "MegaScizor" form.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Evolution from Scyther to Scizor
Step 1. Get an "Metal Coat"
This element, if possessed by one of your Pokémon, increases the power of "Steel" -type attacks. It is an indispensable tool to be able to transform Scyther into Scizor. If you are trying to get hold of an "Metal Coat" by acquiring it from a wild Pokémon, you must first capture it to find out if it has one.
- Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal: you can find a "Metalcoperta" inside the "Acqua" motor ship. Alternatively you can catch a wild pokémon "Magnemites". In the Crystal version you can acquire it from the wild pokémon "Maggie" found at the Kanto power plant.
- Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald: The "Metal Coat" is owned by the wild pokémon "Magnemites" and "Magnetons".
- Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen: you can find one by going to the "Rocky Column" or get it as a reward at the "Trainer Tower".
- Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum: you can get a "Metal Coat" by landing on "Iron Island" and defeating Ferruccio, the gym leader of "Canalipoli". He is also in possession of the following wild Pokémon: "Magnemites", "Steelixs", "Beldums", "Bronzors" and "Bronzongs".
- Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver: you can find an "Metal Blanket" aboard the motor ship "Acqua", it is also possessed by the following wild pokémon: "Magnemites", "Magnetons", "Steelixs", "Beldums", "Metangs" and "Bronzors". The pokemon "Maggie" you find at the Kanto power plant also has one. Finally, you can get one by going to the Pokéathlon Arena on Thursday, Friday or Saturday.
- Pokémon Black and White: you can find a "Metalcoperta" on route number 13 and on "Monte Vite". He is also in possession of the wild pokémon: "Magnemites", "Metangs", "Metagrosses" and "Bronzongs".
- Pokémon Black 2 and White 2: you can find one at the "Cava Pietrelettrica" and at the "Passo di Rafan". Alternatively, you can buy one at the antique shop in the "Solidarity Gallery" or by going to the "Black City" (the latter option is only valid for the Nero 2 version of the game).
- Pokémon X and Y: You can find an "Metal Blanket" at the "Poké Ball Factory" and the "Pokémileage Club" by clearing the first level of the "Flying Balloons" minigame. In addition, he is in possession of the wild pokémon "Magnetons".
- Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby: you can find a "Metal Coat" in the city of "Ciclanova" or in possession of the wild pokémon: "Magnemites" and "Skarmorys".
Step 2. Make sure you are ready to evolve Scyther
There are several reasons why you may want to continue using Scyther in its basic form before evolving it.
- Scyther can learn some moves that Scizor is unable to acquire, for example "Eterelama" once he reaches level 53. Scyther is also able to learn the "Double Team" move once he reaches level 37. Scizor, attained level 37, acquires the move "Ferroscudo" instead.
- Scyther is much faster than Scizor, but is very weak in the face of "Rock" attacks and other types of moves. Scizor's only weak point is its "Fire" type attacks.
Step 3. Give Scyther an "Metal Coat"
It is an indispensable tool for the evolution of the pokémon.
Step 4. Trade your Scyther with a trusted friend
This is the only way to evolve Scyther. Contact a friend or another user you can trust, exchange Scyther with him and then have it returned to you after the evolution has taken place.
Step 5. Have Scizor returned
Scyther will automatically evolve into its new form as soon as the first trade is completed. At the end of the procedure, ask your friend to get your pokémon back.
Part 2 of 2: Evolution from Scizor to Mega Scizor
Mega Evolutions are only available in the X, Y, Alpha Sapphire, and Omega Ruby series of the Pokémon video game.
Step 1. Obtain and upgrade the "Mega Ring" (Pokémon X and Y)
To evolve Scizor into Mega Scizor, you need to get a "Keystone" embedded in a "Mega Ring". To have a "Mega Ring" you must defeat your rivals and get the "Fight" medal at the "Yantaropolis" city gym. To receive the "Mega Ring", take the medal located at the top of the "Torre Maestra".
- After obtaining the "Mega Ring", upgrade it by defeating again the rivals you find in the city of "Batikopoli". At the end of the fight, "Professor Sycamore" will upgrade your ring.
- Search online for more information on the "Mega Evolution" process in the X and Y series of the Pokémon video game.
Step 2. Defeat the legendary pokémon:
Groudon or Kyogre (Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby). When playing Pokémon Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby, to gain access to the "Mega Stones", you must first defeat the respective Legendary Pokémon Kyogre or Groudon.
Step 3. Find the "Scizorite"
This is the "Mega Stone" that Scizor needs to evolve into Mega Scizor. When you see the ground glow, you'll know you've spotted a "Mega Stone".
- Pokémon X and Y: You can find the "Scizorite" behind Abomasnow, inside the "Frozen Cavern".
- Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby: you can find the "Scizorite" south of the rock covered with moss that you find inside the "Bosco Petalo". To reach it you need the "Cut" move.
Step 4. Deliver the "Scizorite" to Scizor
The "Mega Evolution" process will only take place during a fight and only if Scizor is in possession of the "Scizorite".
Step 5. To make it evolve, select the "Mega Evolution" option during a fight
You can only use "Mega Evolution" once per fight. The mega-evolved form of your pokémon will last for the entire fight, even if you change pokémon. Should your Mega Scizor KO, or if the battle ends, it will return to its normal form.
