Within Pokémon GO, each Pokémon can only evolve thanks to a specific number of "candy". For example, to evolve Pikachu, you will need to have 50 Pikachu candies. To get more Pikachu Candy, you need to capture more Pikachu and then transfer them to Professor Willow. As Pokémon become more powerful each time they evolve, you should quickly focus on this aspect to secure an unbeatable team of Pokémon.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Obtain the Amount of Candy Needed for Pokémon Evolution

Step 1. Determine if you have enough candy to evolve the Pokémon you are interested in

Each time you catch a Pokémon, such as Pikachu, you are awarded a certain amount of candy (in this case, Pikachu candy) and "stardust". To evolve Pikachu, you need to have a certain number of Pikachu candies (later, to evolve Spearow, you will need to have a certain number of Spearow candies, and so on).

Step 5. Look at the profile of the chosen Pokémon

On the stats page for Pikachu, you should be able to see its image, its health points (HP or HP from the English Hit Point), its type, weight and height. Additionally, you will see "Stardust" and a number next to "Pikachu Candies". The latter indicates the amount of Pikachu candy you currently have.

Step 6. Look at the "Boost" bar

Exactly below the latter is the "Evolve" bar. This is the button that you will have to press to evolve your Pokémon once you have reached the necessary number of candies.

  • If you already have the necessary number of candies, press the "Evolve" button.
  • Otherwise you will have to get the number of candies required for the evolution.
  • Normally, in order to evolve an original Pokémon in its first form, you will need to obtain a number of candies between 25 and 50. After the completion of the first evolution, the number of candies required to evolve the Pokémon again will progressively increase.

Method 2 of 3: Get Additional Candy by Catching Other Pokémon

Step 5. When a Pokémon appears on the screen, select its icon

Before you can select it, you'll need to walk in the direction of its location to get close. The smartphone will display the real-world view, taken by the camera, with the image of the Pokémon you identified in the center.

Step 6. To catch the Pokémon, use the Pokéball at the bottom of the screen

You can use your thumb or index finger to "throw" the Pokéball at the Pokémon you wish to catch. Press and hold the Pokéball with your chosen finger: slide it across the screen in the direction of the Pokémon, then lift it.

Step 7. If the first roll was unsuccessful, try again

Sometimes the Pokéball does not have the desired effect because wild Pokémon have moved or because the aim is not accurate. If your first catch attempt failed, try throwing a second Pokéball with greater force and accuracy.

Step 8. Collect the amount of stardust and candy you are entitled to since the Pokémon's capture

For example, if you caught a wild Spearow, you will earn a certain number of Spearow candies.

Normally, when you catch a new Pokémon, you earn 5-10 candies, while in the case of a Pokémon you already have, this number drops to 3-5

Step 9. Be patient

There is no way to choose which Pokémon to appear in your vicinity; therefore, most likely, you will have to wait some time before being able to catch a sufficient number of specimens to evolve a certain Pokémon.

Method 3 of 3: Get Additional Candy By Transferring Pokémon to Professor Willow

Step 3. Examine the list of Pokémon in your possession

Evaluate the number of duplicate Pokémon you wish to evolve. For example, if you have 2 Pikachu and one has 21 PL (Battle Points or CP from the English Combat Power) while the other only has 11, it is very likely that you want to evolve the first and transfer the second. The Pokémon with the most HP and the most Battle Points will be much stronger during fights.

This strategy is best suited to Pokémon that can be found and caught more frequently and easily, such as Pidgey or Rattata. If you manage to catch two specimens of a rare Pokemon, it is very likely that you want to keep them both, without transferring one to Professor Willow

Step 4. Tap or click the Pokémon you wish to transfer

Step 5. Scroll to the bottom of your profile page until you see the green "Transfer" button appear

Evolve Pokémon in Pokemon GO Step 21

Step 6. Press the "Transfer" button, then confirm your willingness to transfer the selected Pokémon

Transferring a Pikachu to Professor Willow will give you Pikachu candies in exchange. Remember that the transfer cannot be canceled and that it is not possible to transfer a Pokémon of which you only own one (you must have at least one to make it evolve).

For each Pokémon transferred to Professor Willow, you will get a candy in exchange

Advice

  • Try playing Pokémon GO in different locations. This way you will have a better chance of being able to catch the Pokémon you want.
  • Access Pokéstops to get Pokéballs. Having more Pokéballs available will allow you to catch many more Pokémon.

Warnings

  • When playing Pokémon GO, be careful where you are going. By focusing solely on your smartphone screen, you can easily lose sight of your surroundings (including potential dangers).
  • Even if you can't spot a particular Pokémon, try not to get frustrated by the situation. There is no way to choose which Pokémon to appear in your vicinity.
