Re-posting tweets (in jargon "retweet") is a perfect way to spread what a person has written globally, when you think it's interesting and definitely needs to be shared. The social network Twitter provides an official "retweet" function that allows you to do just that. Fortunately, if you retweet something and later decide you shouldn't have shared it, you can undo the action and delete any trace of the post.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Application for Mobile Devices
Step 1. Open your mobile's Twitter application
Find the blue bird icon with "Twitter" under it and tap it to open it.
Step 2. Log into your profile
In the lower right corner of the screen is a gray silhouette of an avatar, under which is the word "Account". Tap this button to log into your Twitter profile.
Step 3. Scroll through the personal page to find the retweets you have posted and would like to delete
They are recognizable thanks to the presence of two arrows that run in a circle. On the left side you can also see the image of the user who originally posted the tweet.
Step 4. Tap the message icon to delete it
This operation allows you to delete the tweet from the profile, so that neither you nor other users can see it in the notifications anymore.
This procedure does not allow you to delete the original tweet from the page of the user who wrote it
Part 2 of 4: Deleting the Retweets Made
Step 1. Log in to your profile
To do this, click or tap the icon with the silhouette of an avatar located in the upper right corner of the screen; this opens a drop-down menu. Click on the username (if you are using an application for mobile devices you must touch the word "Profile") to enter the personal page which contains the history of all the publications, replies and retweets you have made and received.
Step 2. Find the content you want to delete
Scroll the page to see all the retweets; you can recognize the ones you have published thanks to a special icon: two green arrows chasing each other in a circle.
Step 3. If the retweet was done more than 6 months ago, your icon and username will be shown in the list of people who retweeted it, but the retweet circle will be gray and not green
To delete these original retweets, you need to retweet them again, which will cause the retweet icon to turn green. You can then click on the icon to delete that retweet. This will also allow you to remove the original retweet you made 6 months earlier.
Step 4. Tap or click the retweet icon
In this way you can cancel the publication, i.e. delete the retweet from the profile. By doing so, neither you nor any other user will be able to view it in the notifications anymore.
This procedure does not allow you to delete the original tweet from its author's page
Part 3 of 4: Deleting Tweets Copied by Another User
Step 1. Learn the difference between a retweet and a copied tweet
One method of having the text written by someone else appear on your profile is to manually post the tweet. You can do this by copying another user's text and pasting it into your tweet. This type of posting isn't technically a retweet and you can delete it like any other posts you post.
Step 2. Log in to your profile
The correct procedure to do this depends on whether you are using the social network from a computer or mobile phone.
- Mobile application: tap the avatar icon located in the lower right corner of the screen and which says "Account".
- Computer website: click on the image of your avatar located in the upper right corner of the screen; then click on the username as soon as it appears in the drop-down menu.
Step 3. When viewing your personal page, find the tweet you want to delete
Scroll down the page to read the entire publication history until you come across the one you want to delete.
If you remember the content of the tweet, you can type some keywords in the search bar located in the upper right corner of the screen; this is a quicker way to search for the specific publication (although it also allows you to view other users' text containing the same keywords)
Step 4. Click on the three gray dots located in the upper right corner of the tweet you want to delete
This operation displays a list of options.
Step 5. Select "Cancel Tweet"
The publication is deleted from the personal page.
Part 4 of 4: Hide another user's Retweets
Step 1. Recognize a retweet that comes from a user you are not following
Sometimes, someone you don't know posts a text which is then retweeted by an individual you follow. You can recognize these kinds of messages by the grayed "[username] retweeted", which is right above the text, accompanied by a green icon.
Step 2. Visit the user's page
Click or tap the person's name that appears above the retweet.
Step 3. Locate the gray gear icon located in the upper right corner of the screen
Typically, it is placed to the left of the blue "Follow" button. Tap or click on the gear to view the drop-down menu with the various options.
Step 4. Tap or click "Disable Retweet"
In this way, in the future, you will no longer see retweets made by this user. However, you cannot delete from your timeline those made by other people; if this becomes a problem, your only option is to selectively disable them for each specific user. There is no method of hiding postings en masse, you have to manage each user individually. To reduce all this confusion, go to the main page of the people you follow.
- You can still read the person's original tweets.
- This has no retroactive effect - all previous retweets will remain visible on your timeline.
Advice
- If your publications are protected, other people will not be able to retweet them.
- You can't retweet your own tweets.
