This article explains how to create a new Minecraft account that you can use to log into the Minecraft Java Edition version of the game. Since the game was bought by Microsoft, logging into Minecraft means using your Microsoft account. If you already have a Microsoft account (which also includes an Xbox Live account), you can use it to log into the Minecraft website and create a new user profile to play with. Otherwise the registration process will be quick and easy. If you already have a Mojang account, you will need to migrate to a Microsoft account in order to continue playing Minecraft, however at the moment (April 2021) the migration process has not yet started.

Step 1. Visit the URL https://www.minecraft.net using an internet browser

You will be redirected to the Minecraft website.

  • If you already have a Minecraft account that you created via the Mojang site, you will be prompted to migrate it to a Microsoft account in the course of 2021. However, this process of migrating Minecraft accounts created via the Mojang website has not yet begun at the moment. When the time comes to perform the migration you will receive a message, containing the instructions to follow, directly on the Minecraft.net profile and in the game client.
  • If you have a Minecraft Premium account that you have never migrated to a Mojang, you will not be able to perform this step now. However, when Mojang accounts are converted to Microsoft accounts, your Minecraft Premium profile will be converted directly to a Microsoft account.

  • If you haven't purchased Minecraft Java Edition yet, click the button Buy Minecraft: Java Edition to purchase the product or click on the button Download now to play the demo version of the game before purchasing it permanently.
  • If you need to change your Microsoft / Xbox account information, click the yellow "Change account settings on Microsoft.com" button displayed at the bottom of the page.

Advice

  • If possible, use an email address that you have easy access to, but which is not the one you usually use.
  • The Mojang company, creator of the game, requires that users log in exclusively to their website and the Minecraft client. For this reason, you shouldn't share your account credentials with anyone, even if you receive an email that apparently comes from Mojang itself.
