Google Voice is a free service that allows people to choose a local number for their voicemail and calls. You can connect your Google Voice number with your landline or mobile phone line, to receive a call on all your contact details and easily forward it to the voicemail when you are not available. Follow these directions to get a Google Voice phone number and start using your account.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Sign in to Google
Step 1. Go to www
google.com/voice.
Log into your Google account. All Google products are now unified, so you'll use the same username and password you use for Gmail.
If you don't currently use any Google products, you need to create a Google account. Go to accounts.google.com/NewAccount to enter your details and sign up
Step 2. On the google site
com / voice wait for the prompt message that says "Set your Google Voice number" to appear.
If it doesn't appear, click on the link that says "Get a Google Voice number" on the left side of the page
Method 2 of 4: Choose a Google Voice Number
Step 1. Click the "I want a new number" button in the first window that appears
You have the option to set up the Google Voice account with your mobile number. This will prevent you from using some of the Google Voice features. You will always be able to use the Google Voice number in conjunction with your mobile number
Step 2. Enter your postcode or area code to find an available local number
Click "Next".
- If there are no phone numbers available, enter a postcode that is nearby. Some large metropolitan areas do not have local telephone numbers available.
- If you are creating a Google Voice account to make free phone calls within the US or Canada, you can choose a phone with the code for the area where most of the family members or friends you call live. People using landlines can call the Google Voice number for free and will be able to reach your mobile number.
Step 3. Choose your number from a list when you find a postcode with available phone numbers
Click on the circle next to the number and choose "Continue".
Remember that you will have to pay to change your number later, so choose it right now
Step 4. Enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access your phone number
Write down the number or memorize it.
Method 3 of 4: Call Forwarding with Google Voice
Step 1. Look for the message asking you to link a forwarding number to your account
You will be able to set up more numbers in the future, but entering one will allow you to activate your account now.
Step 2. Enter the number of your choice
Select if it is landline or mobile.
Step 3. Find the confirmation number on the next screen
Click the "Call Me Now" button to check it out. Make sure you have the other phone nearby so you can answer it.
Confirmation allows Google Voice to ascertain that the forwarding phone belongs to you
Step 4. Answer the phone
Enter the confirmation number when prompted.
Step 5. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to set up your personal voice message

Method 4 of 4: Google Voice Number Settings
Step 1. Return to Google.com/Voice to see your account history
Step 2. Change the settings by clicking the gear icon at the top right of the page
