When using Instagram, you have the ability to research people, trends, and topics. You must know that everything you are looking for within the social network is stored within its application. If you don't want Instagram to keep your recent searches, you can clear its history via the app's configuration settings. Remember that it is not possible to perform this task using a computer.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Use the Settings
Step 1. Launch the Instagram application
You need to locate the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2. Press the button to access the profile:
featuring a silhouette and placed in the lower right corner of the screen. You will be redirected to the page relating to your Instagram profile, from which you can access the configuration settings.
Step 3. Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen
The "Options" menu will be displayed.
On Android devices, you need to press the button with three vertically aligned dots, located in the upper right corner of the screen
Step 4. Choose the item "Clear Search History"
This option is located at the bottom of the menu; once selected, a confirmation window will appear.
Step 5. When prompted, press the "Yes, I agree" button
Your Instagram search history will be deleted immediately.
Step 6. Tap the magnifying glass icon, then select the "Search" bar to verify that the new settings have been applied correctly
If there is no entry in the "Top" or "Recent" tab, your search history has been successfully deleted.
Conversely, if there are still past search results, press the "Clear" button in the upper right corner of the results pane, just below the "Places" tab
Method 2 of 2: Hide a Specific Search
Step 1. Launch the Instagram application
You need to locate the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2. Tap the magnifying glass icon located at the bottom of the screen
This will bring up the relevant search bar.
Step 3. Select the "Search" text field located at the top of the screen
Step 4. Go to the "Top" tab ("Recent" on Android devices) located below the search bar
The "Top" / "Recent" tab stores all the users, tags and places you have searched for most recently and most often. Search categories include:
- "People": contains the usernames of the people you searched for in Instagram;
- "Tag": contains the list of hashtags you searched for in Instagram;
- "Places": Contains the names of the places you searched for on Instagram.
Step 5. Press and hold a specific item contained in one of the mentioned categories
It can be related to a person, a hashtag, a place, etc.
Step 6. When prompted, press the "Hide" button
After a few moments, a context menu should appear which will contain, among others, the option in question.
Step 7. Repeat the process for all the wanted items you want to hide from prying eyes
Items that have been hidden will no longer appear within the search history.
