Opening a bottle without the benefit of having a bottle opener is something many aspire to, possibly without losing a tooth. There are actually many ways to open a bottle. You can use practically everything (from an appliance to street furniture). In this article, we will explore different methods of opening a bottle. Warning: broken glass bottles are dangerous and must be handled with extreme care.
Steps
Method 1 of 10: Open Bottles with Crown Cap
Step 1. Examine your current location for suitable edges, crevices, and cavities to fit into the top of the bottle
Step 2. The simplest method is to use a pair of (massive) scissors
Open the scissors and place them against one of the ridges of the crown cap. Cut off one of the ridges and continue cutting off others, until the cap can be removed.
Step 3. Use a spoon (the bigger the better)
Put the tip of the spoon under the cork, grab the neck with one hand and pry to pop the cork. It's like using a lighter, but with a spoon it's much easier and faster.
Step 4. Try opening the bottle with a lighter
It is not as simple as one might think, but as they say "learn the art and put it aside". Lighters with a flat side are more effective in this regard.
- Firmly grasp the bottle, placing your thumb up on the cap. The other fingers have to squeeze the neck of the bottle. The uppermost finger must leave space to put the lighter and leverage.
- Insert the lower part of the lighter between the lower part of the cap and your finger. You must place it on the phalanx of the index finger, so that the lighter is perpendicular to it.
- Squeeze the neck of the bottle tightly and pry between the phalanx and the knuckle. If you are holding your fingers well, the cap will pop off. Try it several times to understand how to proceed, you will not get hurt.
- The trick is to pry without touching the cap under any circumstances, except to pry. Use the largest knuckle of the index finger as a fulcrum for your lever (do a Google search to understand the meaning of the word "fulcrum" and think of the lighter as a lever - read further below). With this method you can shoot the cap even at a height of five meters, among other things with a nice "pop", depending on the bottle. You can make some nice flips with a bottle of Moretti, but any beer cap will do. Given the force exerted by the cap being shot off, pay attention to the eyes and face. A plug in the eye can cause PERMANENT damage! The oval-shaped bic lighter works very well due to its size and the seal it exerts on the neck without slipping.
Step 5. Try some vending machines
Some vending machines are useful because they have a slot for returning the change which may be suitable for the purpose. Insert the cap into it and pull firmly downwards. Use durable metal inserts.
Step 6. Use items you have around the house
If you search hard, you may find something useful for this purpose.
- Belt buckles are fine if they are the right size. The side of a spatula can also work.
- Using a regular fork is a quick and easy method. Use one of the prongs as a lever, lifting the crown cap grooves one at a time.
- Children's ice skates are also good. The best are the more expensive ones, with the notches in the blade. Unfortunately not everyone has them.
- The seat belt buckles are the right shape to open bottles. However, this method is not recommended. If you get an alcoholic drink in your car and are stopped, you may need to have an unpleasant chat with a policeman.
- A metal nail clipper can also be useful for blowing off a cap. Open the nail clipper as much as possible, put one end under the cap and pry. You should feel the compressed gas release. Slowly lift all the grooves until the plug comes off.
- Use the lock on the side of the door, applying pressure at an angle and voila, the bottle is open!
- A potato peeler works just as well. Firmly grasp the neck of the bottle and hold the peeler on the side where it does not cut the potatoes. Gradually lift each inlet of the cap that will not pop off, but after a while it will fall off on its own.
- Take two bottles: you can open at least one. Use the cap of one of the two bottles like the lighter described above, but be careful. If you do not use the side of the cap you could open the one above instead of the one below.
- Use a can opener. The end with the ring works very well. Put the cap inside the ring and open it as if it were a normal bottle opener.
- One side of a normal radiator is effective and it is not a drama if you pour a little beer on the floor. Put the outside of the cap on the pointed side of the radiator and pull firmly down.
- Use hotel hangers (the ones that can't be stolen). Put the bottle under the bar, insert the cap into the hanger (where it connects to the bar) and open the bottle as if using a normal bottle opener.
- A plastic can opener. Wrap the cap tightly, twist and pull.
- The hammer works great. Turn it upside down, put the cap between the ends of the pen and lift it up. It's very SIMPLE, if you know how to use a hammer.
- You can also use regular A4 paper to open a bottle (the thicker, the better). Fold the sheet in half many times, then grab the bottle as if you wanted to open it with the lighter. Put one corner of the folded paper under the cap and, with all the strength you have, force the cap. It may take several tries, twisting the neck of the bottle to loosen the grip of the cork. This is sure to impress, even if it is one of the more complex methods of opening a bottle. Pay attention to your hands, it is easy to cut a knuckle by holding the sheet of paper on the sides of the crown cap.
Method 2 of 10: With Metallic Objects
Step 1. A terrific tool is the pliers for removing staples
Insert the two teeth under the cap and pull upwards. Repeat the operation a couple of times to blow off the cap and that's it!
Step 2. You can also use some types of plugs, such as the American one
The American plugs are easily inserted under the cap. Push on the inlets of the crown cap to remove it easily.
Step 3. Use the metal lock plate attached to the door jamb
Twist the bottle down, you shouldn't drop a single drop. A potentially beer-soaked carpet reduces the attractiveness of this method.
Step 4. Alternatively, place the rim of the crown cap on an edge (preferably metal)
Hit it with the palm of your hand. Do not use wooden surfaces or you will ruin them.
Step 5. A wedding band or keepsake ring is ideal for removing the cork from a soft drink or beer
Warning: gold wedding rings could be ruined using this method, you risk eviction or divorce by your wife. Simply grab the bottle with the hand without the ring and place the other hand with the palm over the cap. Fit the ring on the edge of the cap and with the right pressure the cap will pop off. Depending on the shape and size of the ring, you could hurt your finger. If you open too many bottles it could swell, use a little common sense. If it hurts too much, stop.
Step 6. Know that you can pry the cap off with virtually any metal object that has a rim and is handy
Simply grab the neck of the bottle under the cap. Then use the handle of the spoon, the blade of the knife (with the cutting part facing outwards) or anything that rests comfortably on the phalanx of the index finger. Put it under the edge of the cap and force it open. If the metal is thick enough, it won't put too much pressure on your hand to hurt you.
Step 7. You can use the underside of a chef's knife (use a knife with a blade wide enough so that the sharp end does not rest on the skin), the handle of a serving spoon, tongs, a steel bowl stainless steel, some scissors, a stapler, a screwdriver, a spatula, a cocktail strainer
A car key can work too, but you could hurt your cuticles a lot. If you don't mind ruining an object, you can also use a brush handle, a ceramic coaster, a remote control, a spoon, the hard cover of a book, a CD case… Any object has an edge.
Step 8. A good way to open a bottle is to use a pair of handcuffs, which could also be used to break the ice with your partner
Turn the throttle inwards, place an edge of the cap under the smooth part of the throttle and let it pop off. Use only good quality handcuffs, otherwise you could get hurt.
Method 3 of 10: With a rubber band
Step 1. Wrap a rubber band around the edge of the metal cap
Step 2. Turn the cap as hard as you can
If you still can't open it, you can wrap it with a thin cloth and try again.
Method 4 of 10: With a Key
Step 1. Firmly grasp the neck of the bottle with one hand so that the tip of the thumb presses against the grooves of the cap
Step 2. With the other hand, take the key and place it between your thumb and the cap, so that it fits into one of the grooves on the edge
Try different teeth on the wrench and use the one that fits perfectly under the groove in the cap.
Step 3. Use the tip of your thumb to press the key under the cap as hard as you can and twist the key to push the grooves of the cap away from the bottle
Step 4. When you have managed to lift one groove, turn the bottle a little and lift the others
Step 5. Continue turning the bottle and lifting the grooves
The more grooves you lift, the easier it will be to remove the cap.
Step 6. When you have reached the middle of the cap you should be able to remove the key and, keeping your grip on the bottle, you can remove the cap with the tip of your thumb
Method 5 of 10: Open a Bottle of Wine
Step 1. Push the cork into the bottle
It is a functional method, although it can be more complicated with older wine bottles. Use a blunt tool for maximum pressure. If you don't want to risk spilling wine, do it in a sink. Nobody likes to wash wine stains off the carpet.
Method 6 of 10: Take advantage of thermal expansion
Step 1. When an object is heated, the collision between particles increases, weakening the attractive force of matter, which consequently expands
By applying this principle of thermodynamics we can remove a metal plug. Use the flame of the lighter around the cap, then use something resistant to force it to open (knife, furniture, etc.). This will greatly facilitate the opening of the bottle. Remember, however, that the cap and neck will be very hot.
Method 7 of 10: Remove the Cork With a Knife
Step 1. Grab the bottle by the base of the neck (removing the cover paper)
Step 2. Place the tip of the table knife against your neck
Step 3. Insert the blunt tip of the knife against the glass edge of the bottle
Pry to lift the cap, turning it around without breaking the glass. If you break it, try to blow the glass dust into the sink.
Step 4. If you break the glass, use gloves to remove it along with the stopper
Remember to blow the small pieces of glass into the sink.
Step 5. If the cork did not come off with the piece of glass, use a pair of pliers (or something similar) to remove it
Be careful, broken glass is very sharp.
Method 8 of 10: Remove the Cork With a Screw
Step 1. You will need a self-tapping screw, a screwdriver, a hammer and a surface at the same height as the neck of the bottle
Step 2. Screw a screw into the center of the cork, leaving half a centimeter out
Step 3. Use the hammer (against a surface for prying) to pry the cork out of the bottle by prying the screw
Even better, use the screw to make a hole for the cork to go through. Now you can pour the wine directly from the cork! Voila, let's drink! It may flow slowly, but at least you won't get hurt. If you need a screw, retrieve it from a place where it is already screwed in and then put it back in its place. Drink the whole bottle or cover the hole with bubble gum, the choice is yours
Method 9 of 10: Harness the Pressure
Step 1. Take a kitchen cloth and fold it to be able to wrap the bottom of the bottle inside
Step 2. Wrap the cloth on the bottom of the bottle
Holding the cloth steady, tap the bottom of the bottle against the wall. The movement of the bottle must be directed on its longest axis, and must be perpendicular to the wall.
Step 3. Keep whisking, increasing the strength of each beat (but without breaking the bottle) and the cork will pop off slowly
- If you don't have a kitchen towel handy, you can use a tennis shoe. Take off a shoe (or use your friend's) and slip the wine bottle into it. Keeping the wine bottle securely tucked into the shoe, slam it against the wall. A couple of well-aimed shots should do the trick. Be careful, the cork could blow off completely spilling the contents of the bottle all over the place. Keep an eye on the cap and use your hands to remove it completely.
- This method does not work with all bottles and the wine could be a little foamy after opening it like this. Let it sit for a few minutes before drinking it, if you can wait.
- This method works better in houses made of brick than in houses made of wood. Alternatively you can use the door jambs. The important thing is to use a smooth and solid surface.
Method 10 of 10: With Metal Fence Meshes
Step 1. Many, if not all, metal fences have metal meshes with corners
These rings provide perfect tabs that are ideal for opening a bottle.
Step 2. Place the bottle in an angular position so that the cap is on the tongue of the ring and the neck of the bottle presses against the outside of the same
Step 3. Hit the neck of the bottle with the other palm with a downward motion that pushes the bottle down
Continue until the cap pops off. Remember that bottles could break if you use too much force, so be careful. The cap may fly off, so be careful not to get hurt or hurt anyone. Enjoy your freshly opened drink!
Warnings
- Don't play with glassware when drinking alcohol.
- If you break a bottle while trying to open it, use gloves (or other protective methods, such as thick fabric) and pick up each piece carefully. Sweep in that area and remove all glass residue. Do not drink from the bottle, glass fragments may have entered it.
