This article shows you how to prevent Facebook from sending mobile notifications via SMS messages (even if your account is not active). If, on the other hand, you are receiving unwanted messages from the Facebook Messenger application, you can solve the problem by directly changing its settings.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Using the Smartphone
Step 1. Launch the application to send text messages (SMS)
To deactivate the service for receiving Facebook notifications via SMS, you can send a simple text message to a specific number, exactly as it happens for the deactivation of many services offered by telephone operators (this step is very useful in case you receive SMS from Facebook despite not having an active account).
Step 2. Start composing a new direct SMS to the Facebook number
The number for the Facebook SMS service varies according to the area in which you currently reside. You can check the list of states and their carriers directly from this Facebook support page. Here is a small excerpt of the most used numbers:
- Italy, USA, United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Canada: 32665 (the number may be different depending on the telephone operator in use);
- Ireland: 51325;
- India: 51555.
Step 3. Type the Stop keyword into the body of the message
Step 4. Send the SMS
You may receive a notification informing you that sending SMS may incur an additional cost, depending on your rate plan and carrier. This is a normal procedure, the purpose of which is to inform the user of the possible additional costs of the SMS sending service.
Step 5. Wait for the answer
You will receive a reply SMS sent from a different number, indicating that the Facebook notification sending service via SMS has been deactivated successfully. From now on, you will no longer receive any SMS from Facebook.
Method 2 of 4: Using the Facebook App (iOS devices)
Step 1. Launch the Facebook application
Make sure you are signed in with the account on which you want to disable the SMS notification service.
Step 2. Access the main menu by pressing the ☰ button
It is located in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Scroll through the list that appeared to locate and select the Settings item
Step 4. Tap the Account Settings option
Step 5. Choose the Notifications item
Step 6. Select the SMS option
Step 7. Press the Edit button located inside the Notifications panel
Step 8. Uncheck the Receive notifications via SMS checkbox
This way, you will no longer receive Facebook notifications via SMS to the number associated with your account.
Method 3 of 4: Using the Facebook App (Android Devices)
Step 1. Launch the Facebook application
Make sure you are logged in with the Facebook account on which you want to disable the SMS notification service.
Step 2. Access the main menu by pressing the ☰ button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Scroll through the list to locate and select the Account Settings item
It is located within the section "Support and settings".
Step 4. Choose the Notifications item
Step 5. Select the SMS option
Step 6. Press the Edit button located inside the Notifications panel
Step 7. Uncheck the Receive notifications via SMS checkbox
This way you will no longer receive Facebook notifications via SMS to the number associated with your account.
Method 4 of 4: Using the Facebook Website
Step 1. Log in to the Facebook website
To disable receiving notifications via SMS, you can use the Facebook website directly. If you wish, you can also remove the mobile number associated with your account.
Step 2. Log in
Make sure you log in with the account associated with the mobile number on which you no longer wish to receive SMS notifications.
Step 3. Click the ▼ icon
It is located in the upper right corner of the web page that will be displayed after logging in, exactly on the blue bar visible at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Choose the Settings option
Step 5. Go to the Notifications tab
It is located inside the left pane of the page that appeared.
Step 6. Select the SMS option
Step 7. Click on the radio Off button
Step 8. When done, hit the Save Changes button
From now on, you will no longer receive Facebook notifications via SMS to the number associated with your account.
Step 9. Completely remove the phone number from your account if you continue to receive Facebook notifications via SMS
In this case, to solve the problem, you can delete the mobile number associated with your account:
- Log in, then open the menu "Settings".
- Access the card "For mobile".
- Push the button "Remove" placed next to your mobile number.
- Confirm your action by pressing the button "Remove phone number".
