A hat is essential to keep your head warm when it's cold outside. Sweatshirt caps adapt to the shape of your head and are always in fashion. They can be made with a natural fabric, such as wool or cotton, or with a synthetic fabric such as that of sweatshirts. A light, warm and easy to sew fabric. Unlike other types of fabric, synthetic fabric does not wear out, so it will last over time. Instead of buying your own cap, you can make your own with a small amount of fabric and a sewing machine. Read the guide to find out how.
Steps
Step 1. Go to the haberdashery and buy a piece of your favorite fabric about 90cm long
You can choose the color, the texture of the fabric and the thickness. Choose according to the climate and your personal style. Then you can decide whether to add accessories such as buttons, sequins, gems, or cut letters from another piece of fabric.
Step 2. Measure the circumference of your head
Most adults have a head circumference of around 53-58cm. The synthetic fabric is quite stretchy, so a 58cm model should fit most people.
Step 3. Go to p2designs.com/pdfs/EasyFleeceHat.pdf to download and print the template
You can also ask the haberdashery if they have one, or visit clearkid.deviantart.com/art/Fleece-Hat-Tutorial-68772035 for a slightly different model.
Models often have small differences. They will have 4 sides and a strip at the base. Some can be made with a single piece of fabric, others require 5 separate pieces
Step 4. Try to understand the elasticity of your fabric before measuring and cutting it
The hat should fit the shape of your head well.
Step 5. Cut a 58x30cm rectangle
Reduce the long side to 48 or 53 cm for a child or young adult respectively.
Step 6. Fold the fabric in half, aligning the ends
Then fold it in half again. You should now have a rectangle measuring approximately 14x30cm.
Step 7. Lay the printed pattern on the fabric
Make sure it fits snugly against the sides of the folded fabric.
Step 8. Place 4 pins to hold the model in place
Make sure that the pins go through all 4 layers of the fabric. If you can't do this with pins, use larger safety pins.
Step 9. You will notice a horizontal line on the model
When cutting the fabric you must never cross this line.
Step 10. Use sharp scissors to cut the 4 layers of fabric, creating the tips that you will then go on to sew
Step 11. Remove the pins and unroll the fabric, smoothing it over the work area
Step 12. Turn the fabric so that the inside of the hat is facing you
The seams will have to remain inside.
Step 13. Line up two points and match the sides
Baste leaving about 2.5 cm from the edge. Then machine sew the first two sides along the edge.
Make sure the seam stays on the inside. You will need to pass the fabric under the stapler in a curved motion, following the shape of the hat
Step 14. Repeat on the other sides
When you get to the last, pin the two sides together and sew from bottom to top.
Step 15. Keep the fabric inside out
Measure and fold a hem about 7.5 cm at the base of the hat.
Step 16. Baste the hem in five places to hold it in place
Keep the tip of the hat on the left and the base on the right.
Step 17. Put your hand on the brim and turn it over to the other side, forming a band on the outside of the hat
Fold almost the entire hem, until there is only 5mm left on the inside.
Step 18. Put the hem in the stapler, being careful not to overlap the sides of the hat, otherwise you risk sewing them together
Slowly make a 5mm hem blind spot. Move the hat so you don't risk sewing both sides together. Continue until you return to the starting point
Step 19. Turn the hat over and remove the pins
Now you can wear it.
