Does the idea of creating a ghost costume just give you the creeps? Don't be afraid, all you need are some common objects and the help of a friend. If you follow these simple steps you will make your new ghost costume in no time.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Create a Classic Ghost Costume
Step 1. Cut the brim of a light colored baseball cap
If you want to cut the brim you can wear it backwards.
The hat must be as light as possible or it will be visible through the sheet that you will place over your head
Step 2. Place the sheet over the head of the person wearing the ghost costume
If it is too long and touches the floor, mark where it needs to be cut.
The costume must be long enough to recreate the floating effect of a ghost, but not so long that the wearer stumbles
Step 3. Mark the center of the person's head with a black marker
Step 4. Mark the holes for the eyes
Tell the person under the sheet to use their fingers to indicate where their eyes are and draw two small dots at that height.
Step 5. Remove the sheet and attach it to the baseball cap
The mark you made for the center of the person's head should match the center of the hat.
- Secure the sheet to the hat with three or four pins.
- If you don't want the black dot on the top of your head to be so visible, you can turn the sheet upside down. This way the sign will still be there but less noticeable.
- It is also possible to cover the mark with white-out.
Step 6. Cut the eye holes
Cut where the eyeballs were marked and draw a circle with a black marker. The eye holes should be at least twice as large as the person's eyes.
Step 7. Draw the mouth and nose
Use a marker to trace them. You can cut a hole for the nose or mouth to make breathing easier.
Step 8. If the sheet was too long, cut it
Cut along the line you marked earlier.
Method 2 of 2: Create a more elaborate ghost costume
Step 1. Place a sheet over the head of the person who is to wear the costume
Step 2. Draw a circle around the neck area
Step 3. Mark the area above elbows
Step 4. Mark the area below the ankles
Step 5. Remove the sheet
Step 6. Cut a circle around the circular area you marked for the head
You need to make sure that the person can insert their head into the sheet.
Step 7. Cut the holes for the arms along the marks you made above the elbows
Step 8. Cut along the line drawn at the ankles
As you do this, try to recreate a motion effect by cutting in a zigzag pattern.
Step 9. Collect the scraps of cut fabric and glue along the entire costume with fabric glue
This way you will recreate the ghostly effect.
Step 10. The person wearing the costume should wear a white long-sleeved shirt
Triangles of fabric can be glued to the shirt so that they hang and move.
Step 11. Have the sheet put on again
The person must be able to easily insert the head through the hole at the top and the arms must fit snugly into the side holes.
Step 12. Apply white makeup all over your face
Cover all parts of the face, including the eyebrows and lips.
You can also apply makeup on your neck as that will be visible
Step 13. Draw gray circles on the lids and under the eyes
You can paint your lips or leave them covered with white makeup.
Step 14. Sprinkle your hair with flour to recreate the effect of the powder
Advice
- Apply black or white polish on your nails to accentuate the spooky look.
- Try to wear light-colored shoes to match the costume.
- Making the costume with only the sheet is easier but remember that it may be more difficult to socialize by wearing it. If you go to the houses asking for "trick or treat" this costume is perfect but if you go to a party it would be better to use the method of make-up and drapes.
- Children can be overly fussy about creating ghost costumes. If your child really wants to be a ghost, the trick method may be the best.
