All bird lovers know how unpleasant it is to have to clean the cage. Postponing cleaning only worsens the situation, as the fallen feathers continue to come out of the cage and the smell can become unbearable. Here's how to efficiently clean your bird's cage!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Basic cleaning routine
Step 1. Line the cage base with 3-4 sheets of newspaper
Step 2. Scrape dirt and feathers off the perches
Step 3. Rotate the perches and move the toys to give your bird some variety
Step 4. Thoroughly clean the cage once a month with a special bird disinfectant while your bird flutters around the house
Step 5. Finished
Method 2 of 2: Vinegar Cleanser
This method is ideal for cleaning stubborn excrement.
Step 1. Prepare a solution containing one part distilled white vinegar and two parts water
Step 2. Put on the gloves
Step 3. Dip a clean cloth into the solution
Use it to scrub the base, sides, and perches of the cage. Insist on the droppings and add more solution if necessary.
Step 4. Scrub with warm, clean water
Step 5. Let it dry naturally
Advice
- It is advisable to buy a cage with a grate and tray that can be removed from the base. Place some newspaper on the tray and most of the droppings will fall out of the grate.
- Change the newspaper daily and throw away the dirty one.
- You can make a safe disinfectant by mixing 15ml of bleach with 900ml of water. Make sure you rinse thoroughly and wait for the cage to be completely dry before bringing the bird closer.
- It is advisable to have several cages available, in this way, while you are cleaning one, the bird can stay in the other.
