This article explains how to use WhatsApp's "Broadcast" feature to determine which of your WhatsApp contacts owns your mobile number. Remember that, using WhatsApp, even a person who does not have your mobile number stored in their contacts can send you messages. It should be noted that the procedure described in the article may not be reliable in the case of people who use WhatsApp with a very low frequency.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: iOS devices
Step 1. Launch the WhatsApp app
Touch the corresponding icon characterized by a balloon with a white telephone handset on a green background in the center.
If you have not yet logged in to WhatsApp from the device you are using, follow the instructions that will appear on the screen before continuing
Step 2. Select the Chat tab
It features a cartoon icon and is located at the bottom of the screen.
If after starting WhatsApp you see the screen of the last conversation you participated in, press the "Back" button (shaped like an arrow) located in the upper left corner of the screen
Step 3. Select the Broadcast Lists option
It is a blue link located in the upper left corner of the screen. The list of currently active broadcasts will be displayed.
Step 4. Choose the New List item
It is located at the bottom of the screen. The list of your WhatsApp contacts will be displayed.
Step 5. Select at least one of the people whose mobile number you want to find out if they have your mobile number stored in their phone's address book
You will need to select at least one contact to be able to create the new broadcast message.
Step 6. Select the contact you want to verify
This is the person whose mobile number you want to know whether or not they have stored your mobile number in their address book.
Step 7. Press the Create button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. This will create the new broadcast and you will be automatically redirected to the corresponding conversation page.
Step 8. Send a message to the group
Tap the text field located at the bottom of the page, type a short message, for example test), then press the "Send" button
located on the right of the text field and characterized by an arrow. The message will be sent to all group members.
Step 9. Wait the necessary time
The length of time you will have to wait for a reply depends on the time you sent the message, but you usually have to wait 1-2 hours before you can continue. This way everyone you sent the broadcast message to will have time to view and read it.
Step 10. Access the information menu of the message you sent
Follow these instructions:
- Open the tab Chat of WhatsApp, select the link Broadcast lists, then select the broadcast list you just created;
- Keep your finger pressed on the message you sent to access the context menu;
- Push the button ► located on the right of the appeared menu;
- Select the option Info.
Step 11. Check the "Read by" section
Anyone who can read your message has your phone number stored in their address book, so within this section you should see the name of the contacts who have stored your phone number on WhatsApp.
- If in the indicated section there is the name of the person you are looking for, it means that they have your phone number stored in the address book.
- Remember that if the contact in question has your mobile number stored in their address book, but uses WhatsApp infrequently, it will not appear in the "Read by" section until they use the program again.
Step 12. Check the "Delivered to" section
Anyone who does not have your mobile number in the contact book will not receive your broadcast message in the form of a chat. In this case the person's name will appear in the "Delivered to" section.
If the name of the person you are looking for is displayed in the indicated place, it most likely does not have your mobile number stored in the address book
Method 2 of 2: Android devices
Step 1. Launch the WhatsApp app
Tap the corresponding icon characterized by a balloon with a white telephone handset on a green background in the center.
If you have not yet logged in to WhatsApp from the device you are using, follow the instructions that will appear on the screen before continuing
Step 2. Select the Chat tab
It is displayed at the top of the screen.
If after starting WhatsApp you see the screen of the last conversation you participated in, press the "Back" button (shaped like an arrow) located in the upper left corner of the screen
Step 3. Press the ⋮ button
It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 4. Choose the New Broadcast option
It is one of the items listed in the menu that appeared. The WhatsApp contact list will be displayed.
Step 5. Select at least one of the people whose mobile number you want to find out if they have your mobile number stored in their phone's address book
You will need to select at least one contact to be able to create the new broadcast message.
Step 6. Select the contact you want to verify
This is the person whose mobile number you want to know whether or not they have stored your mobile number in their address book.
Step 7. Press the ✓ button
It has a white check mark on a green background and is located in the lower right corner of the screen. A new broadcast group will be created and you will be redirected to the corresponding chat page.
