Not all hospitals and not all countries record the time of birth of children, but it is worth (and the cost) to have a detailed certificate drawn up, whenever possible. In Italy, all hospitals are obliged to draw up a precise medical record (which shows the time when the newborn was born), but in the past this was not the case, also taking into account the number of babies born at home. Memories of parents, midwives or old family friends could prove useful in this research. If you are trying to go back to your time of birth to draw up a horoscope, you can try to reduce the range of probabilities thanks to a process called rectification of the star map.

Method 1 of 2: Consult the birth certificate or hospital medical record
Step 1. Ask your parents and other people who were present at the time of your birth
Mom and Dad may remember exactly when you were born, or they may advise you to ask other family members (or friends) who were present. They may also be in possession of a copy of the birth assistance certificate.
If your parents keep a binder with "family history", take a look at old journals, the family Bible and other bulletins that might mention your time of birth
Step 2. Know the rules regarding the birth certificate
Not all countries require the health facility to record the time of birth, and it could get complicated if you came into the world at home. If you were born in Italy before 1997 (the year in which the law regarding the birth certificate came into force), the time may not have been registered. If you were born abroad, here are some details on how to find this information:
- In the United States, the time of birth is recorded only on the "long form" certificate (ie in full) also known as "full version". This information is missing especially in documents prior to 1930 or for births in towns with less than 100,000 inhabitants.
- In the UK, the time of birth is recorded only for twin births and in some Scottish hospitals.
- Most Western European states require the annotation of the time of birth, but Australia, Canada, Ireland and India do not provide for the recording of this data.
Step 3. If you were born after 1997, you can request the birth certificate only from the Municipality where the birth took place
Remember that this is a different document than a simple birth certificate or statement and is extremely detailed. You will need to present an identity document and, if you are a minor, you will need to be accompanied by a parent. Step 4. Go to the hospital and ask for the medical record
As a last resort, you can request your mother's obstetric medical record (with her consent) to trace the time of birth. Contact the gynecology department by phone, email, or introduce yourself in person. Ask how you can view the clinical data relating to your birth in search of the exact time of the event. It may be necessary to present an identity document and written authorization from your mother.
Method 2 of 2: Evaluating the Time of Birth with Astrology
Step 1. Find out if you need to rely on astrology
If you believe that this discipline is able to predict your future based on the date and time of birth, then you will need to develop a star chart or ask an expert to do it for you. If you know the time of birth only from your mother's memories, if the minutes are not shown on your birth certificate and the value has been rounded to the nearest hour, or if you have no idea when you were born, know that your whole map will be based on incorrect information. The online calculators listed below will tell you how likely it is that a particular star map, or part of it, is accurate. Enter the value of the hour in which you think you were born, for example "3", if you only know this data roughly or "12", if you have no idea of the time. If there are many possibilities that the star map coincides with the predictions, regardless of the accuracy of the data of your time of birth, then you can skip the complicated procedure that we are going to describe.

Step 2. Have the "most probable" star map developed
This kind of card doesn't have to be very detailed because it's just a starting point. If you have no idea what time you were born, prepare a map assuming you were born at noon. If you know that the event could have happened between 4:00 and 8:30, then prepare a map as if you were born at 6:15.

Step 3. Make a list of the most important events in your life
Write down everything you can remember. You will need details such as the year, date and, if possible, also the time when an event happened. Trauma and accidents are among the most useful elements, but don't forget to include marriage, divorce, birth of a child, change of job and everything that has been important in your life. It uses this information to evaluate the accuracy of the previously drawn map which, we recall, was developed from imprecise data.
Step 4. Make predictions based on the star map
Use transits, solar arcs and all other astrological techniques to define predictions based on the first "most probable" map. Here are some tips based on how quickly astrological bodies move across the map. Consult an astrology website if you don't know how:
- Consider all the solar arcs except that of the ascendant, the mid-sky and the moon.
- Evaluate the transits for Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the lunar nodes. If you are sure about birth, add those of the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars as well.
Step 5. Compare predictions with real life events
Astrologers use different techniques to "rectify" the star map, but the basic idea is to check if the events match the prediction and possibly change the time of birth so that this happens. Here are some of the most used techniques:
- Eliminate events that can be explained by the planetary connections of your birth. Observe the remaining events and evaluate if they become concentrated when the celestial bodies reach certain degrees in their motion. The degrees correspond to your ascendant and mid-sky, if the positions can explain the events.
- Compare the recent transits of the outermost planets (such as Jupiter or Pluto) with the events of life and pay attention if you notice any influences.
