Those who live in chaotic cities, near construction sites or in apartments with thin walls, surely have to deal with deafening noises that invade their home from the outside. There are various ways to keep these noises away, and one of them is the purchase of sound absorbing curtains. These are thinner than classic curtains and often have panels that absorb sound before it reaches the interior of a room. Buy curtains that match your home décor and you'll minimize annoying noises coming from outside.
Steps
Step 1. Identify the exact area where the noise is coming from
Find the wall or window that makes the most noise, this is where you will apply the sound absorbing curtains.
Step 2. Measure the area in which to hang the curtains
This will help you determine the size of the curtains you need to buy.
Use a measuring tape to take the height and width of the space you have chosen. Curtains usually stick to windows, but you can also mount them on a wall or door that you don't open
Step 3. Pay attention to the thickness of the curtains
To ensure proper insulation, the curtains must be between 5 and 7 cm thick.
Touch the curtains to test their weight. They must weigh at least 6-9 pounds
Step 4. Check that they have a plastic layer on the back
Sound absorbing curtains look like normal curtains, but have plastic inserts in the back.
Make sure that these plastic inserts are of quality, silica and sand are elements that determine a good quality of the sound absorbing barrier. Check the packaging or ask a salesperson for information
Step 5. Buy on the internet or in specialized stores
You won't find sound absorbing curtains in home decor stores.
- Search on the internet or in the telephone directory for resellers specializing in sound-absorbing materials.
- Also do an internet search to look for retailers who make custom sound absorbing curtains.
- On eBay you can find sound-absorbing curtains, perhaps cheaper, by buying them second-hand.
Step 6. Remember to buy sticks and tools to set up your tents, which being heavier than the classic ones, they cannot be mounted on normal poles
For these tools, go to a DIY store
Step 7. Inquire about the warranty or product return
If you order custom acoustic curtains, you may not be able to change them in case you don't like them.
Advice
- Insulate your home even if you make noises yourself. If you play an instrument or listen to loud music, set up curtains to avoid disturbing your neighbors.
- Study other ways to soundproof. You can increase sound absorption by using panels of fabric, plastic, plasterboard and double glazing on the windows.
