The sand crabs are not the same as "Mr. Krabs" in the Spongebob cartoon, or the huge orange and reddish ones found in seafood restaurants. The ones we are trying to catch are a species that tends to camouflage and blend into the sand. So if you want to grab some, keep reading.
Steps
Step 1. Find a beach, gather your things and stay alert
Step 2. Walk towards the water
If it is too cold, it begins to familiarize yourself with the temperature.
Step 3. Stand on the water's edge, where the waves break and come back out to sea
This is the typical habitat for sand crabs, so you shouldn't have a hard time catching them. However, avoid the sandy area that is too dry.
Step 4. Once you've found a good spot, dig a hole
It does not have to be particularly deep, it is okay about 15 cm deep.
Step 5. When the wave arrives, start digging a little
As you make the hole, a sand crab is likely to start swimming around the puddle.
Step 6. When you see him swimming, try to catch him with both hands
Crabs like to go under the sand, so try to be quick. When you manage to hold it in your hands, do not crush it before putting it back in the water.
Step 7. Once you have held it long enough, release it
Wild animals don't like being held captive, and sand crabs are wild animals.
Advice
- They don't bite, so don't be afraid.
- Wear a bathing suit when in the water.
- Be quick because they move very fast. Remember, they move sideways!
- If you want, you can bring a bucket and keep them there for a while.
Warnings
- Seagulls sometimes want to eat sand crabs, so be careful if you see them around.
- You may have to dig more holes to be able to find them.
