Have you ever wondered if it is possible to curl your hair without having to use hairspray? Of course you can! To make your hair beautifully wavy without having to resort to hairspray, all you need are a few products and the time it takes. You can have perfect curls while saving yourself a nice inhalation of spray.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Prepare the Hair
Step 1. Don't wash your hair for a day or two
It's best to wait until some oil has built up on your scalp and hair before trying to curl them.
If your scalp gets too greasy, try using dry shampoo only on that portion of the hair
Step 2. Braid your hair the night before you curl it
This will create a wavy effect that you can use with the curling iron. It works especially well if you braid your hair while it's damp. Wet your hair (without using shampoo), dry it lightly with a towel and braid it.
- You can do as many braids as you like. Just make sure you can sleep comfortably in it.
- To achieve a similar effect, you can also roll your hair into small buns. Divide damp hair into four parts and roll up the strands, securing them with bobby pins. When you undo the bun, your hair will be even more wavy than the effect you would get with braids, but it will be less comfortable to sleep on it.
Step 3. Apply a heat protection product
The last thing you want is to "fry" your hair, so protect it as much as possible from the extreme heat produced by the curling iron.
Step 4. Apply a curling product
It will help optimize the result and keep the hair soft and non-frizzy. Curling products come in gel or spray form - you can use whichever type you prefer.
Step 5. Apply a fixing mousse or other styling product
It will help you fix your hair once curled.
Some mousses are specially designed for curly hair. Opt for one of these if you need to purchase the product specifically for curling your hair. On the other hand, if you already use a mousse regularly, try applying that before buying a new product
Part 2 of 2: Curl the Hair
Step 1. Divide your hair into sections
Better not to comb them completely if they have already formed curls after you braid them. However, it is necessary to separate the strands to prepare them for curling. With the tip of the comb, divide the hair into sections of 2.5 cm all around the head.
Step 2. Make curls with the curling iron
Curl each strand individually, starting with the one closest to the face.
Take a 2.5 cm strand of hair and, keeping the curling iron in a vertical position, squeeze the end of the strand. Rotate the curling iron towards your head, stopping at a sufficient distance not to burn yourself
Step 3. Pin each strand to your head immediately after you curl it, so that it holds the style
It is essential to roll up the locks and keep them still on the head until they have cooled completely: it will help to set the curls.
Step 4. Remove the bobby pins and style your hair however you like
The products you applied before curling them, combined with the wavy effect obtained from the braids and the use of hairpins, should help to fix the curls.
