Eyelash curlers can tear or damage your lashes, so it would be best to try a new method to curl them. The good news is that you don't need sophisticated tools to achieve a lasting, eye-catching result. Try curling your lashes with a teaspoon, mascara, or all-natural aloe vera gel. Whichever method you choose, adding a heat source helps to have a long lasting effect.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Curl the Lashes with a Teaspoon
Step 1. Get a clean teaspoon, avoid the big ones
It must fit the size of the eye well, so that the curve of the tool matches that of the eyelid.
Step 2. Put it under the tap by running hot water
Heating the metal allows the lashes to be curled more effectively, transferring the heat to the hair. It will have a similar effect to that of the curling iron, but on the lashes. Dry the spoon once it is heated.
Step 3. Hold it against your eyelid
Place it horizontally and place it gently on the eyelid. The bottom of the spoon should be resting against the eyelid, with the concave side facing out. Line up the edge of the spoon with the top lash line.
Step 4. Press the lashes against the curve of the spoon
Use your finger to press them on the edge of the spoon and into the concave part. Keep them in contact with hot metal for 30 seconds.
- Check the result obtained. If you want to define the fold further, repeat the process for another 30 seconds. You can also use this method to curl your lower lashes.
- Repeat with the lashes of the other eye. You may need to reheat the teaspoon before starting.
Step 5. Apply mascara to set the crease
Using clear or black mascara allows you to set the style for the rest of the day.
Step 6. Carefully comb your lashes while the mascara is still wet
Use an eyelash comb to separate and define them. Don't overdo it, or you'll lose the turn.
Step 7. Finished
Method 2 of 4: Use a Cotton Swab and Mascara
Step 1. Apply mascara as usual
Take a pass or two, depending on your preference. Don't wait for it to dry to continue - it needs to be wet for the crease to set.
Step 2. Use the plastic part of a cotton swab to push the lashes up
Hold it horizontally along the lash line and use it to push them to get a good crease. You can also use a cardboard nail file or other long, thin tool for this process.
Step 3. Hold this pose for at least 30 seconds
During this time the mascara will dry, allowing the lashes to retain a curled shape.
Step 4. Conclude using a hair dryer
Set it so that warm air comes out and make sure you keep it at least 6 inches away from your face. Gently heating and drying the mascara will allow the crease to stay intact longer.
- Do not use the hottest temperature of the hair dryer. Hot air could damage your eyes.
- If you are happy with the styling, you can skip this step, without using the hair dryer.
Step 5. Repeat with the lower lashes and the other eye
Be patient while holding the cotton swab. Don't let go until the mascara has dried completely and the crease has set.
Method 3 of 4: Using the Fingers
Step 1. Start without applying mascara
Starting with clean lashes allows you to smudge less.
Keep in mind that this method is not very effective and lashes tend to lose their crease when mascara is applied
Step 2. Warm your fingers
You can put them under running hot water for a few minutes or rub them together to warm them.
Step 3. Push the lashes up
With your index finger, push the lashes upwards towards the top of the eye. Hold the position for at least 30 seconds. Repeat with the lower ones and the other eye.
Step 4. Swipe mascara twice to set the crease
Apply it carefully by moving the brush in a zigzag pattern from roots to ends. If you need to comb them, do it gently so as not to lose the style.
Method 4 of 4: Maintain the Hairstyle with Aloe Vera Gel
Step 1. Apply a small amount of aloe vera gel on the middle finger
Rub it lightly with your thumb to distribute the gel and warm it up.
Step 2. Apply the gel to your lashes
Put your thumb under your lashes and slowly close your eye without moving your finger. Gently grab your lashes and run your fingers over them. Repeat a couple of times to make sure the gel is applied thoroughly.
Step 3. Push the lashes up to curl them
Place your index finger horizontally under your lashes and push them against your eyelid. Hold the position for at least 30 seconds while the aloe vera gel dries. Repeat with the lower lashes and the other eye.
- The crease will last longer if you gently fix it with a hair dryer at a warm temperature while keeping the lashes still. Make sure you avoid hot temperatures.
- Once the gel has dried, you can apply mascara or stop there.
Advice
- Make sure you don't get your fingers, spoon, or mascara in your eyes to avoid irritating them.
- Comb the lashes on the outer corner of the eye more than the others, so you will have a fan effect.
- When applying mascara, remember to wave the brush horizontally to achieve an even result and separate the lashes.
- You can also use your palms to curl your lashes. They are usually warmer than fingers, although not as accurate.
