Are you tired of the usual expensive and fragile flowerpots that overturn at the first gust of wind and freeze in winter? Here's how to make some homemade concrete flower pots. Once the mold is created, you can make as many as you want. These sturdy flowerpots are inexpensive and last several years.
Steps
Step 1. Create the mold for your vase
Get two identical vessels of different sizes, so that one is larger than the other. For example, you can use two bowls or two buckets, the important thing is that one of the two containers has a diameter of about 3 cm smaller than the larger container. You can also make square or rectangular pots using plywood containers.
Step 2. Coat the inside of the large container and the outside of the smaller container with cooking oil or baking spray
If you use plywood containers, do the same with wood wax.
Step 3. Cut at least 2 or 3 sections of a PVC pipe
They will be used to create the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot and must be at least 4-5 cm long.
Step 4. Wearing gloves to protect your hands from the cement mixture, mix a quick-setting cement slurry (available from a hardware store) following the instructions on the package
At this point, if you wish, you can add some cement dye.
Step 5. Pour the 3 cm thick concrete mix into the bottom of the larger bowl
Insert the PVC pipe sections into the dough making sure they are far enough apart. Spread the concrete around the pipes well, but be careful not to completely cover them and leave the opening at the top free so that the drainage holes of the pot are formed.
Step 6. Place the smaller vessel on top of the concrete and place it in the center of the larger vessel
Press the bottom of the smaller container down so that it is directly in contact with the holes in the tubes.
Step 7. Finish the operation by filling the space left between the walls of the two containers with more cement mixture
As you add concrete, tap the bottom of the mold lightly onto a solid surface so that the concrete settles and spreads well inside. Add cement until you reach the top of the largest container. Level the concrete at the top with the help of a trowel.
Step 8. Allow the concrete to set for at least 24 hours, then remove the smaller container
Spray cold water on the inside of the jar with a spray bottle. Do not remove the larger container.
Step 9. Cover everything with a plastic sheet and let the concrete set for at least a week
Spray cold water into the jar from time to time to keep the concrete moist.
